13 th Marktoberdorf Piano Academy master classes and courses for pianists, teachers, students and piano amateurs of any age April 30 May 4, 2018 Bavarian Music Academy Marktoberdorf, Germany The Marktoberdorf Piano Academy, promoted by the VFmdK e. V. (Association for the Promotion of Piano Ensemble Playing), is part of the International Piano Academy Project" and aims to develop the pianist s musical skills systematically. The faculty consists of internationally recognized concert pianists and pedagogues. A variety of courses offers training for solo repertoire as well as chamber music. Participants may register for several parallel courses with one or several teachers. Courses for piano ensembles serve the development of communication and interaction in music making and help promoting the extensive and frequently undererstimated repertoire for 4, 6, 8 or more hands on one or more pianos. Meeting the increasing demand of amateurs and returners to the piano, many of our classes are open to participants of any age and level. Lectures and concerts are open to all participants.

faculty members Prof. Tomislav Nedelkovic-Baynov Professor of piano at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen. Born in Sofia, Bulgaria. Piano studies at the National Academy of Music in Sofia with the Neuhaus pupils Prof. Konstantin Ganev und Julia Ganeva. Further piano and composition studies with V. Savova, P. Wladigeroff, L. Nikolov. 1981 emigration to Germany and graduate studies (Artist and Solo Diplomas) with Prof. Johan van Beek at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen. Prizewinner at many international piano competitions. Founder (1989) and artisitc director of the Baynov-Piano-Ensemble which dedicates its repertoire to works for several pianos. Prof. Baynov conducts master classes in Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, China, Singapore and Canada. In 2002 he was appointed guest professor at University of Qing Dao and at other Chinese universities. His performances include numerous solo, chamber music and orchestral concerts with a repertoire of more than piano concertos, radio and tv broadcasts and numerous CD-productions. Baynov performs as a concert pianist and soloist with reknown orchestras on all five continents. Reinhard Becker studied music and musicology. He recieved his musical education from Hans Kann (Wien) and Naoyuki Taneda (Karlsruhe). Studies with Hans Leygraf (Salzburg) and Günter Reinhold (Karlsruhe) completed this foundation. Since 1981-2017 he has taught a piano class at the university of music Trossingen. From 2001 to 2014 he managed the department of keyboard instruments, guitar and harp. He is teaching a precollege class at the music college of Villingen-Schwenningen. In February 2012 he was elected as artistic director of the Saturday concerts of the Geistige Nothilfe Königsfeld. From his class numerous piano educators and pianists have emerged, among them many top prize winners in international competitions (Busoni, Gina Bachauer Salt Lake

City, WPC London, Bellini and others). His students are playing regularly in principle concert halls. He has undertaken concert tours to Brazil, Finland, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Kazakhstan, Korea, Kyrgystan, Switzerland, Singapore, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, the United States and Yugoslavia. Becker s repertoire focuses on Haydn, Beethoven, Schumann, Liszt, and Debussy. His studies enabled a realignment of Beethoven interpretations. In addition to constantly expanding his standard repertoire, he takes a particular interest in recent developments in piano composition. Reinhard Becker has recorded for radio, television, and on CD. 16 years old he did his earliest recordings with works by Johann Sebastian Bach for television. Most recently, records with works by Liszt and Haydn has appeared (Maple Grove Music Productions). Prof. Axel Gremmelspacher Axel Gremmelspacher performs as a soloist and chamber musician in various settings, especially with pianist Tomislav Nedelkovic-Baynov, violist Julia Rebekka Adler and as a member of Trio Eusebius. His performances have been broadcast by Deutschlandradio, Bavarian Radio, Northern German Radio (NDR), Southwest Radio (SWR) and Radio Bremen. He studied at music schools in Freiburg, Boston and Hannover with Robert Levin, James Avery and David Wilde as well as with John Perry in Toronto, supported by scholarships from the Rotary Foundation and the Canadian Government. He completed his Soloist Diploma with honors (Freiburg, 2003). Important inspiraton was given to him through master classes with Leon Fleisher, André Laplante, Marc Durand, Wolfram Christ and Jörg Widmann. He received a scholarship from the German Music Competition and was a member of the Federal Selection of Young Artist s Concerts. Axel Gremmelspacher has been teaching at Musikhochschule Trossingen since 2005. As of October 2010, he was appointed Professor of Piano at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Frankfurt.

Veselinka lvanova A native of Shumen, Bulgaria, pianist Veselinka Ivanova graduated from the "Prof. Vesselin Stoianov" School of the Arts in Rousse in 1979 as a student of Janeta Benun. In 1983 she completed her studies at the Bulgarian State Conservatory in Sofia under Prof. Lilly Atanassova. She has won numerous prizes from piano competitions in Shumen, Rousse, Provadia and Sofia. From 1982 to 1988 she participated in masterclasses with Prof. Rudolf Kehrer in Weimar, Germany. Since 1983 she has been teaching piano, chamber music and pedagogy at the "Prof. Vesselin Stoianov" National School of the Arts in Rousse. Ms Ivanova has presented solo recitals and chamber music concerts in all major Bulgarian cities as well as in Germany, Romania, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Norway and USA. She was a featured soloist with the Philharmonic Orchestras of Shumen and Rousse as well as the Academic Orchestra in the Bulgarian State Conservatory. She has been invited for piano masterclasses to Boston, Hanover (USA), Marktoberdorf, Munich, Hammelburg, Trossingen, Bergen and Palma de Mallorca. To her credit are many recordings for the Bulgarian National Radio and Television. She has served as a jury member of piano competitions in Bulgaria and has been acknowledged as a master teacher by many awards. More than 30 of her students have won over 100 prizes from national and international competitions (incl. 25 1 st prizes and Grand Prix). Many continue their music education in Bulgaria as well as in Europe, Canada and USA. In the past 10 years, Ms Ivanova has given preference to special training for young pianists, dealing with the whole process from initial training of children to preparing them for major international competitions, solo, duo and ensemble. Hyun-Jung Kim After completing her Master s Degree at Mok Po University and Kyong Hee University in Seoul (Korea), Hyun-Jung Kim continued her studies at Hochschule für Musik Detmold in the studio of Prof. Jean Efflam Babouzet and completed her

Soloist Diploma at Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen with Prof. Tomislv Baynov. Besides numerous appearances in solo recitals, she has performed as a soloist with orchestras in Korea as well as with the Pleven Orchestra, Bulgaria. In 2011, she won the 3 rd prize in the Dobrich-Albena Festival-Wettbewerb. Since 2012 she is a piano faculty member at Cho Dank University and since 2013 at Mok Po University. Ms. Kim regularly serves as a judge on international competitions. Winfried Rompf Born in Bremen, Germany, Winfried Rompf immigrated to Canada as a child and took most of his academic and musical training in British Columbia. He studied piano with Marjory Lancaster-Smith, Edward Parker, Boris Roubakin and Pierre Souverain. He won the Murial Erskin Award for his ARCT examination and won numerous other recognitions, including top marks in the Ottawa Kiwanis Festival. He has had extensive experience in solo performance, chamber music, vocal accompaniment and as coach. He was conductor of the Gloria Ensemble, a community orchestra and chorus, specializing in larger sacred works such as motets, oratorios and masses. In addition, he was Music Director, conductor and pianist in several large churches in Vancouver. Beside his busy piano teaching schedule, he is Vice- President and senior piano examiner for the BC Conservatory of Music, festival adjudicator and master class clinician both in Canada and abroad. Currently, he is president of the North West Piano Ensemble Society, which has conducted its fourth international competition for one and two pianos, four hands in November 2014. Win is founding member and artistic director of the Vancouver Piano Ensemble, which has toured a number of countries including Germany, Slovakia, Austria, Italy, China, Singapore and Canada. Room and board (4 meals per day) are provided by the Bavarian Music Academy Hammelburg (for passive participants, too). Booking for accompanying persons or familiy members is possible and should be requested with the application. Several piano practice rooms are available. 2. In order to avoid overbooking, the number of participants for each course is limited. In coordination with the artistic director, participants may be placed in a course of the same topic with a different faculty member. The same applies in case of cancellation of a faculty member. 3. The regular duration of a lesson is 45 minutes. 4. For chamber music and piano ensembles we kindly ask to provide a list of the works that are intended for study during the course. In case of piano ensembles, there may be possibilities to integrate participants that don t form a complete ensemble. 5. Any course may be booked individually. Participants may book up to three courses of same or various content, with one or several teachers (e.g. 1a+1b+1c or 2a+3b+4a). Students should feel free to sign up for taster courses, too. 6.
