Page Page Setting Up Your Switcher for Operation The KD-CSW2x1 Automatic Switcher is easy to configure and operate. First, find a safe and convenient location for the Switcher. Do not connect the external 5 Volt DC power supply to the back of the Switcher until all your Video and devices are interconnected to the KD-CSW2x1 with your Video and devices. 1. Connecting A/V Equipment to your KD-CSW2x1 Switcher Two video and audio input sources, Input 1 and Input 2, are connected to the KD-CSW2x1 Switcher via standard RCA color-coded jacks. Virtually any scanning format can be used. Each of the two input sources can consist of Video (Y,Pr,Pb), and (analog L,R or Digital PCM). You can also switch the following video: VGA (RGBHV) video (use the L&R audio connectors for H&V) Composite Video (using the Y channel only) S-Video inputs (using a two wire adapter connecting the Y channel for luminance and Pr for chrominance) All video should be 1 V p-p terminated into 75 ohms. Composite sync should be on the Y signal. The analog audio inputs are high-impedance line-type inputs. The standard digital PCM audio is on one RCA color-coded jack. Toslink Optical labeled Digital on the rear panel is only active when a digital PCM digital audio source is used on the coax input. If no Digital source is used on the coax input, there will be no output through the Toslink Optical Connection. Connectors Toslink Optical Output Cable Lengths and Daisy Chaining Units In all, the KD-CSW2x1 Switcher has 18 colorcoded RCA connectors. The Switcher Output and each of the two Input connector groupings follow the same pattern of component Video [Pr, Y, Pb] on the top connector row, and [L &R analog stereo audio, PCM digital audio] on the bottom connector row. The KD-CSW2x1 also simultaneously generates a Toslink Optical output if a digital PCM audio input source is used and selected. For proper signal integrity, input and output cable lengths should not exceed 50 feet. It is also possible to Daisy Chain the inputs and output of the Switcher to other devices, including additional Switchers. Be sure to terminate all runs into 75 Ohms at the end of the run, and keep the total cable length for any given run under 50 feet. Connect the Power Supply Connect the external 5 Volt DC power supply to the back of the Switcher and into an appropriately rated outlet (please see the specifications in this manual). 2. Switching Between Sources Selecting between the 1 and 2 input sources can be automatic with the KD-CSW2x1. A Manual Override pushbutton (labeled Input Select ) is also provided on the front panel to defeat the automatic switching feature. Both and Video are switched together. It is important that both input sources to be of the same format, such as two Video sources driving a Video monitor. Monitoring Your Input Selection A front-panel pushbutton switch (labeled Input Select ) is provided to select between Automatic and Manual Override modes of the KD-CSW2x1 Switcher. When powered-up, the unit will always start in the Automatic Mode. The user can then use the front-panel pushbutton switch to cycle between: Input 1, Auto Mode, or Input 2. Simply depress the push-button switch repeatedly to cycle amongst the modes. Front-panel LEDs indicate the status of your selection. GREEN LED ON indicates Input 1 has been selected YELLOW LED ON indicates Input 2 has been selected RED LED ON indicates Automatic Mode has been selected (one of the other LEDs should also be ON in this mode, as described below). Under normal operating conditions, please depress and release the Input Select switch, and do not keep the pushbutton depressed for longer than a few seconds. See the SPECIAL NOTICE towards the end of this Operating Manual. Auto Input Sensing Mode To use the Auto Input Sensing Mode, simply power-up the Switcher, or cycle through with the front Input Select push-button switch until the RED Auto LED on the front panel is illuminated. With the Switcher in Automatic Mode, it will look for an active video signal (sync) on the 1 input. If the 1 input has an active signal, then the 1 signal will be switched to the output of the KD-CSW2x1 Switcher, regardless of the activity on the Input 2. If Input 1 does not have an active input signal, then the Input 2 signal will be switched to the output of the KD-CSW2x1 Switcher. Note that in the Automatic Mode, the RED LED will illuminate along with the input LED for the source automatically selected by the Switcher, either GREEN for the 1 input or YELLOW for the 2 input. If the unit is in the Automatic Mode and no signal is connected to the 1 input, then the unit will naturally default to the 2 input and the RED and YELLOW LEDs will illuminate. In the Automatic Sensing Mode, the KD-CSW2x1 Automatic Switcher LOOKS FOR AN ACTIVE SYNC SIGNAL ON THE 1 CHANNEL INPUT. Manual Override Mode The user can also select the input source ( 1 or 2 ) manually, thereby defeating the Auto-sense feature of the KD-CSW2x1 Switcher. Simply use the Input Select front-panel pushbutton to cycle between the 1 input (indicated by the GREEN LED) and the 2 input (indicated by the YELLOW LED). Regardless of the presence of video signals at the input to the Switcher, the manuallyselected input will be switched to the output if the Automatic Mode is turned OFF (RED AUTO LED on the front panel is not illuminated). KD-CSW2x1_Manual.indd 4-5 9/22/06 4:42:12 PM

Page Surround Sound Page Remotely Switching Sources Since the KD-CSW2x1 automatically looks for an active video source on the 1 input, an added benefit of this feature can be enjoyed by utilizing the remote control of the Input Source to achieve remote switching. In this application example, be sure that the KD-CSW2x1 is set in the Automatic Mode (RED LED on the front panel must be illuminated), and simply use the remote control(s) of the input devices to turn the input devices ON or OFF. If the 1 input is turned ON remotely while the Automatic feature of the KD-CSW2x1 Switcher is selected, then the 1 source will appear on the device connected to the Switcher output. IR Remote Control 1. 2. 3.»»» Be sure to install the batteries (included) with your IR Remote Control Be sure to point your IR Remote Control towards the RED IR sensor window located on the right front of the KD-CSW2x1 unit. This sensor should not be obstructed. The KD-CSW2x1 unit can be controlled as follows: a. PRESS 1 ON THE IR REMOTE TO SELECT THE 1 AND THE GREEN LED SHOULD ILLUMINATE b. PRESS 2 ON THE IR REMOTE TO SELECT THE 2 AND THE YELLOW LED SHOULD ILLUMINATE c. PRESS 9 ON THE IR REMOTE TO SELECT THE AUTOMATIC MODE, AND THE RED LED SHOULD ILLUMINATE (and the LED should also illuminate for the autosensed input, in accordance with the operation of the AUTOMATIC MODE -- please refer to the description of the Auto Input Sensing Mode in this Operating Manual) 12 VOLT (SCREEN) TRIGGER The KD-CSW2x1 has a +12 Volt Trigger (constant voltage level) signal. You will need the special cable (12 cable included with your Switcher) to achieve a constant 12 Volt screen Trigger signal when your desired channel is selected. This is ideal should you want to control a device, like the raising and lowering of your projector screen, whenever a particular input is selected. OPERATION OF THE 12 VOLT SCREEN TRIGGER 1. 2. 3. 4. Note that if you look down at the top right of the KD-CSW2x1 (when you are facing the front of the unit), there is a small faceplate secured by two screws. To utilize the 12 Volt Trigger Control feature, you will need to first remove power from the unit, and then remove this faceplate. Once the power and faceplate are removed, you will note two, 4-pin male jacks ( headers ). If you look carefully, you will see J3 (towards the rear) and J4 (towards the front) silk-screened in white on the green circuit board. J4 (towards the front) Plasma will provide TV a 12 Volt Trigger Control when the 2 Input is selected. J3 (towards the rear) will provide a 12 Volt Trigger Control when the 1 Input is selected. Please note that you MUST use the cable and jack / header provided by Key Digital with your Switcher, to achieve proper voltage triggering. This two-conductor cable with a female connector on one end that plugs into the KD-CSW2x1 has additional circuitry to ensure a voltage level is available on the RED wire and GROUND is available on the BLACK wire. SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING AUTOMATIC SENSING AND ACTIVE SYNC To sense an active video input, the KD-CSW2x1 Automatic Switcher looks for sync on the 1 input. While most DVD players and other typical input devices to the Switcher will probably not have active video with sync present when their power is turned OFF, in some cases it is possible that an input device (such as an HDTV STB) may output black video with sync even when the power to the STB is turned OFF. The KD-CSW2x1 automatic sensing circuit will then detect a false active input on 1, even with the 1 source power turned OFF. For proper operation of the Switcher, this type of source should be connected to the 2 input only of the KD-CSW2x1 Switcher, or the Switcher should be operated in Manual Override Mode.
