Two Detectors in One The XB-68 RF Detector & Camera Finder, a.k.a. The Debugger, empowers you to find hidden surveillance devices two different ways. The first method picks up radio frequencies from a wireless device that is transmitting audio or video. You re alerted via an audible signal that gets louder the closer you get to the source device. (Included earphones enable you to detect the transmitting device silently, letting you bypass the XB-68 s built-in speaker.) The second method lets you find a hidden camera visually using a light beam that reflects off the image sensor in the camera back to the red-window lens on the XB-68. In the Box Detector with built-in battery and extendible antenna AC adapter Earbuds User guide Charging The Debugger Connect the hard-wired power cable to the round socket on the side of the XB-68 and plug the power adapter into a wall outlet or power strip. A red LED will light up on the charger so long as it s plugged into power. The LED does not indicate whether the XB-68 is charged or not. Figure on a charging time of at least an hour. You can keep the XB-68 plugged in while using it, though without an extension cord your maneuverability will be restricted. Tips for Sweeping a Room for Electronic Bugs 1. Turn off most of your electronics devices, especially cellphones, smartphones and cordless phones in the room. They need to be turned completely off. Otherwise, they could interfere with The Debugger s ability to detect signals from devices in the room you don t yet know about. 2. Zero out the Bug Detector. Do this by turning the sensitivity all the way up. Then turn it back down just to the point where the indicator goes off. 3. Start a general walk-through sweep. Move slowly and keep The Debugger level. 4. If you get a signal hit, pinpoint the direction it is coming from. Turn the sensitivity down, while moving in the direction of the signal. You should be able to get closer and closer to the source device. 5. When you get as close as possible to the signal source, you should be able to find the transmitting device. If plugged into a power source, unplug the device to see if the signal remains. 6. Places where hidden cameras and other wireless surveillance equipment might be located include: ceiling fans, light fixtures, freestanding lamps, smoke detectors, ceiling tiles, mirrors and air vents. To Detect a Wi-Fi (RF) Signal from a Camera or Eavesdropping Device You can choose to sweep the room for radio frequency emissions three different ways. When you don t care about being heard, you can use The Debugger s built-in speaker/buzzer. For less noise, you can switch to a vibration mode. To maintain room silence, you can attach the included earbuds Buzzer Mode 1. Extend the antenna to its maximum length. 2. Move the power switch to mid position. The blue power indicator near the power switch will light up. 3. Turn the RF signal sensitivity dial up to the highest setting, then slowly turn it down until only one of the four indicator LEDs remains on. If any RF signals are detected, one or more of the RF signal indicators will light up. The more RF signal indicators that are lit, the stronger the signal and the buzzer pitch will get louder. 4. Gradually shorten the length of the antenna and adjust the RF signal sensitivity dial to reduce the detection range. This will let you hone in on the source of the signal. xb-68 rf detector & camera finder user guide 3
Vibration Mode 1. Extend the antenna to its maximum length. 2. Move the power switch to end position. Silent Mode 1. Insert the included earphones into the earphone jack located on the top of the unit. 2. Extend the antenna to its maximum length. Magnetic Compass This allows you to keep track of the direction you re standing as you walk around the room and aim the unit. To Detect a Non-Transmitting Camera Some hidden cameras record video to an internal memory card that is meant to be retrieved later, so trying to detect a radio wave from the camera will be pointless. Therefore, you ll also want to deploy the The Debugger s light beam detection method. xb-68 rf detector & camera finder user guide 4
Laser Detection 1. Turn on the power switch to the mid or end position. 2. Press the oval Laser button. The circular array of six red LEDs on the back of The Debugger will flash. 3. Look through the red-window lens on the front of the XB-68 and walk around the room until you find a red dot reflected back from the image sensor behind a camera s lens. Note: You should be able to spot the red dot from as far away as 33 feet (10 meters) and as close as 3.9 (10 cm) with your naked eye. However, you must be aligned straight on with the hidden camera to see the red dot, so being off center won t be sufficient. Move slowly and deliberately around the room. Once you ve found a red dot, you should be able to move in on your target and find the camera. Low Battery Indicator When the built-in battery power is low, the fourth RF signal indicator will flash. Recharge The Debugger using the included AC adapter. xb-68 rf detector & camera finder user guide 5
