It is the renter s responsibility to acquire all necessary licenses for the performance of music. If the renter does not have the required licence from SOCAN, the Fountain School of Performing Arts will include licence charges for SOCAN in the final billing and the licence fees will remitted to SOCAN on behalf of the renter. Dalhousie University is indemnified against all claims, damages or costs arising out of the performance(s) including claims for copyright. 4. Basic Costs: Sir James Dunn Theatre David MacK. DEPOSIT Capital Improvement Fund (CIF) HST Terms of Payment Non-refundable deposit fee of 50% of total space rental fee (See Basic Costs table on page 3 to calculate the space fee) is required along with signed Rental Agreement a minimum of 60 days prior to the start of the event. $1.00 per total House Count or 20% of rental fee if no count 15% is charged on space rental and equipment rentals only Payment in full of final invoice is required within 30 days of the date of the invoice. SECTION B: RENTAL GUIDELINES (Please retain this Section for your records) The Fountain School of Performing Arts, Dalhousie University, offers to the general public the rental of its theatres, workshops, and equipment when available as a service to the community. The Fountain School of Performing Arts is a training institution; therefore its spaces are staffed with technical students enrolled at the university. The students who work the rentals are under the supervision of a member of the Fountain School technical staff and are responsible to him/her. Any questions involving the use of space or equipment or the running of the rental should be addressed to the Administrative Officer or the Rental Crew Chief. This agreement only becomes effective when the applicant has contacted the Crew Chief to assess the technical requirements of the rental, including equipment requirements, and has paid the deposit fee. A clear definition of the requirements must be ascertained including specifics of times, equipment, staff, rehearsal, performance, sound, lighting, scenery, etc. Owing to certain circumstances not all equipment on our spec. list may be available. In order to ensure availability, please state requirements well in advance. Failure to inform the Crew Chief of all production requirements may result in unavailable equipment or additional cost in equipment or staff for the renter. All technical work will be performed by the technical staff of the Fountain School of Performing Arts, inclusive of fit-ups, flying scenery, rigging electrics, focusing, setting levels, etc. All in-house equipment such as the lighting board, sound console and fly system, and the backstage will be operated by Dalhousie s Fountain School production staff only. This requirement may be altered if deemed appropriate by the Dalhousie Rental Crew Chief. All users must comply with all the rules and safety regulations of the theatre. Dalhousie University is a scent and smoke free environment. No food or liquids are permitted on the stage or in the wings of the Sir James Dunn Theatre or David MacK Murray Theatres. No flame, fireworks or confetti permitted on the premises. Please ensure your stage managers and performers are advised to adhere to these policies. No alcoholic beverages are permitted on the premises except those contracted through the Dalhousie Arts Centre Bar Services. The Fountain School of Performing Arts is not responsible for lost or stolen items. This includes anything left on stage, in the wings, dressing rooms or green room. If a locked space is required to store equipment or valuables, please see the Rental Crew Chief. Dalhousie University and the Fountain School of Performing Arts will not be responsible in the event of personal injury or damage to goods and materials owned by rental groups while using our theatres. Dalhousie University and the Fountain School of Performing Arts cannot be held financially responsible in the event of equipment failure or performance. SECTION D: RENTAL FEES AND GENERAL INFORMATION The fees are divided into 4 categories: 1. Space Fee 2. Technical Staff 3. Front of House Staff 4. Miscellaneous i.e. consumables 1. Space Fee: Dunn Studio 1 (not available Sep-Apr) Performances/Filming: $ 400 per day $200 per day Set-up/Tech/Rehearsals: $ 200 per day $100 per day *Extra Performances in same day $ 100 per day $ 90 per day Lectures/Auditions/Conferences/ Workshops: $ 40 per hour $15/hr. or $60 per day *Extra performance fee is charged when there are two performances on the same day. Please note: matinee performances are not permitted Monday to Friday during the academic year (Sep Apr). Green Room (Not available before 6 p.m. during academic year) Intercom System and Program Sound. 2. Technical Staff Fees: All rentals must be supervised by Dalhousie Fountain School technical staff. Please note staff are employed at the discretion of the Rental Crew Chief to fulfill technical requirements. Minimum crew for any event is three people. Minimum call is four hours. Rates: Technical Crew Chief $22.00 per hour Technical Crew $18.00 per hour Overtime (at the rate of 1.5 times the hourly rate) is payable on staff hours over 48 hours per week. Please discuss your use of the space with the Crew Chief to optimize your time in the theatre. 3. Front of House Staff Fees: All rentals with an audience must use Dalhousie Fountain School Front of House Staff. (Minimum staff is two, includes House Manager and 1 usher) Rates: House Manager $15.00 per hour Ushers $12.00 per hour 4. Miscellaneous Charges: Any items not included in the preceding fees are considered a miscellaneous charge: Piano The Cohn s Steinway may be rented if available for a fee, plus tuning costs. Dance Floor $125.00 for the first performance (includes tape cost) plus $25 for each additional performance. Risers - Price varies depending on number and sizes requested. Gaffer s tape, gel, additional equipment, other rentals such as scenery, props or costumes, sound equipment not on our list, i.e. microphones, extra amps, etc. Rates: Stage Paint $30.00 per gallon (flat black) plus crew time Gaffer tape $12.50 per roll black $20.00 per roll flat black cloth tape 7

CIF (Capital Improvement Fund) The Fountain School of Performing Arts collects $1.00 on each ticket including comps (based on house count). Proceeds to go toward improved theatre facilities (replacement of stage lighting, sound equipment, etc.). If there is no house count, CIF will be charged at 20% of space rental fee. HST (15%) is applied to space rental and equipment rental only. Terms of Payment: Full account payment is required within 30 days of the date of the final invoice. IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE Four seats selected by the Fountain School of Performing Arts will remain at all times under the control of the School and are in no way included in any rental agreement or settlement. THE USE OF FIREWORKS, FLAME, CONFETTI ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED IN OR AROUND THE DALHOUSIE ARTS CENTRE BUILDING AND ITS THEATRES. DALHOUSIE UNIVERSITY IS A SMOKE FREE CAMPUS. Bill Posting The Halifax Regional Municipality Ordinance #19 Bill Posters and the Posting of Bills regulates the posting of bills within Halifax. The placement of a poster on City or public property is a violation of this Ordinance. The penalty for doing so is a maximum fine of $100 for each offence (in this case each poster). Every day this illegal use continues constitutes a separate offence. SOCAN It is the renter s responsibility to acquire all necessary licenses for the use of music during their performance/ presentation. If the renter does not have the required license(s) from SOCAN, the Fountain School of Performing Arts will include charges for SOCAN licenses in the final invoice, which will be remitted to SOCAN on behalf of the renter. Dalhousie University is indemnified against all claims, damages or costs arising out of any performance including claims for copyright. General Information Curfews - Building is closed 11:30 pm - 7:30 am. Fire Marshall - All regulations must be complied with. The building is air conditioned. No smoking is enforced in and around the Dalhousie Arts Centre building. Dalhousie Arts Centre endeavors to be a scent-free environment. Many patrons have severe allergies to scents; please ensure your performers and staff are aware of this policy. Clients of the Sir James Dunn Theatre and the David MacK Murray Studio Theatre are not required to sell their tickets though the Dal Arts Centre Box Office.
