Reaction

Worktable 1. Reflexion about library 2. To improve and increase the physical and virtual presence 3. To improve and increase the presence of the library in the lives of teachers and students - by marketing.

1 Reflection about library

SWOT Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities Treats

Our approach 1- Satisfaction Survey (spring 2006); 2-Direction = Champion; 3-Swot Analysis; 4-Partnership (Direction of Studies & Teachers); 5-Strategic Plan Redaction.

To improve and increase the physical and virtual library 2

Physical space The creation of virtual space = the use of physical spaces?; The trend is to make the library a vibrant living where students can gather to discuss, to do teamwork and, of course, to study.

Virtual Space 1. Website library more friendly user; 2. SIGB and OPAC - easier to use, networking; 3. Using Web 2.0 Tools - publish useful information, share knowledge, (RSS Feeds, Blog, Wiki, De.li.cio. us and Facebook)

Web site library = web 1.0

Improve the virtual presence RSS Feeds Library

Web 2.0 Tools All approaches that we do on the Internet are experimental; No guarantee of success; Perpetually in beta format; We can not afford to wait for the ideal & perfect. It must go ahead: experiment.

Web 2.0 Tools But this is also our problem; As librarian, are you willing to sacrifice the printed at electronics?; The printed format imposes time for choosing, processing and storing. The purchase of electronic books is a lot and quantity; While the model of Collection development " runs empty in this new paradigm; Currently, buying magazines is increasingly in electronic format; Encyclopaedias have became bigger databases; E-book provider (ex: Net Library: 600 titles in French, 160,000 titles in English.)

Web 2.0 Tools Work to be done: Offer development to all staff who did not follow the Internet wave; The development of information literacy of students and teachers; Present online tutorials on how tools, information retrieval and so on. Teaching the research tutorial changing rapidly. 2 years ago without a video voiceover enough, last year adding the voice was a must, but this year should be more interaction in the tutorial to keep the interest of our students; Inform on copyright and plagiat, intellectual property; Using a management Bibliographic tool Zotero; Creating a wiki (developing) college library in the region of Quebec; Creating an account De.li.cious for bookmarks library.

3 To improve and increase use: Marketing

Marketing All technologies can always made beautiful web pages, beautiful interactive video tutorials, but if we do not sell our service as being really useful how to improve the quality of teaching and student success. Who will?

Marketing The marketing of the library is not a new concept in itself. But who is really practical? ; The marketing will enable us to better position ourselves, let us know about our products and services and our image! We must continually assess our services, expand our indicators to measure the contribution of our services to improve teaching and student success. If we limit ourselves to accounting entries, loans we'll make a big depression. We must add a quantitative section qualitative elements; Let me present some important elements concerning the marketing of my library: My idea is to position the library as essential to student success and improving the quality of education. Summary Libraries have always been the gateway to knowledge. ; The Internet has upset this balance between the source of knowledge and humans. That was our hunting and we kept to ourselves "for whom? ", " Why? ; We have became the new explorers ELDORADO this information, the Internet ; The congress will lead us to share, to find new ideas that have worked. Attending a conference like this, we can measure the differences between our institutions, to discuss these changes, learn, to reflect on our future at all ; And once it is completed, we will return everyone in our circles and try these experiences that have worked elsewhere, continue to reflect the new frontiers of libraries, continue to share with colleagues and perhaps even to establish new networks.

For me, the library is: 1. Information otherwise; 2. Having access to greater / best source for quality information; 3. To promote the common goods; 4. Know how to face responsibility for the information to "consume"; 5. Respect copyright; 6. To develop research skills; 7. Building networks; 8. Rethinking our relationship to information; 9. Educating the research to the use of information; 10. Developing our community / our knowledge society; 11. Having a global vision and local action; 12. Give a place to be heard; 13. Provide a "biodiversity" of information; 14. Imagine the future.

Merci!
