1. INTRODUCTION Programmatic Assessment Plan: Orff Certificate Assessment This assessment plan is for the Orff Certificate in Music offered by the School of Music in the College of Fine Arts. 1.1 Unit Mission Statement The School of Music is committed to producing professional music teachers with an in depth opportunity to study, practice and adapt a specialized curriculum Orff Schulwerk into their schools. 1.2 Basic Assessment Approach All outcomes will be assessed within a three year cycle. Please see attached Curriculum Map and Assessment Instruments. 2. ASSESSMENT OVERSIGHT AND RESOURCES The Music Education Division Coordinator (MEDC) will act as assessment coordinator. It is the responsibility of the MEDC to monitor the activities of assessment that occur in the program. The MEDC will convene committees for assessment of artifacts, and will assemble the results into an annual assessment report, which will be communicated to the faculty and delivered to the college. The MEDC and the Director of the School of Music will discuss the results of the assessment on an annual basis. 3. PROGRAM LEVEL LEARNING OUTCOMES Outcome # 1: Demonstrate knowledge in Orff Schulwerk: Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency of musical & movement skills and literacy required in Orff Schulwerk teaching. Outcome # 2: Design Effective Pedagogic Strategies: Design effective pedagogic strategies that demonstrate the Orff Schulwerk process of guiding students in musical growth. Outcome # 3: Experience and Express Values of Orff Schulwerk: Experience and express the intellectual, social, emotional, and aesthetic values of the Schulwerk approach.

ASSESSMENT METHODS AND MEASURES Outcome # 1 is assessed using a rubric (App. 10.1). Outcome # 2 is assessed using a rubric (App. 10.2) Outcome # 3 is assessed using a rubric (App. 10.3) 6. DATA COLLECTION AND REVIEW The coordinator for Music Education with the assistance of the chair of the Music Teacher Education Program in Music Education will be charged with the oversight of collecting the data for each of the SLOs and reporting the results to the Director of the School of Music.

TEACHING EFFECTIVENESS All instructors will use either the University Teacher Course Evaluation (TCE) or workshop evaluations as a process to be evaluated by their students each semester. The chair will review the TCE results or workshop results with instructors and provide feedback to the instructors on an annual basis. 9. POST GRADUATION SUCCESS Our Music Education Division will attempt to stay in contact with former students who have completed the Orff Certificate.
