Calendar of Musical Events - Autumn Term 2014 September Thursday 4 th Chamber Choir rehearsal, 16.15-18.00, RR Extended first full rehearsal of term. Friday 5 th Music scholar meeting, 13.45, RR An opportunity for all of the music scholars to meet together and find out about their mentors, and the expectations and plans for the year. College Orchestra commences, 16.15-17.30, RR String sectional. Monday 8 th All musical ensembles re-commence (see calendar for schedule) Saturday 20 th September Mass at Westminster Cathedral, 18.00 The College and Chamber choirs sing the service of Mass (children required for rehearsals at the Cathedral from c.15.30) Friday 26 th Clari Cantus Concert, 19.00, Chapel Joint Concert between the SGC College and Chamber Choirs, and the Belgian Choir, Clari Cantus in celebration of the WWI anniversary. Tuesday 30 th Culture Club Miss Saigon, Noel Coward Theatre, St Martin s Lane, London, WC2N 4AU, 19.30 2014-2015 Culture Club season kicks off with the opportunity to see this world renowned production of Miss Saigon as it returns to the West End 25 years after it s premier. Monday 6 th Open lesson week Parents are warmly encouraged to come into SGC and observe individual instrumental lessons and meet the music teachers.
Thursday 9 th Lunchtime Live: ABC, 13.35, RR An opportunity to try out performance pieces or compositions in an open performance platform. Friday 10 th No orchestra rehearsal Friday 10 th Sunday 12 th Chamber Choir training weekend The annual residential training weekend for pupils in the Chamber Choir, this year is taking place at Newland Park, Chalfont St Giles, arriving back at approximately 20.00 on Sunday 12 th. Wednesday 22 nd ABRSM Music exams To enter for an examination request a form from Ms Chahal. Half term break: Saturday 25 th October Sunday 2 nd November November Tuesday 4 th ABRSM Grade 5 theory examination, 17.00, R8 SGC hosts a music theory exam session and pupils of any level can enter. We recommend taking grade 5 as soon as possible and classes begin at the start of each term. Contact Ms Chahal about how to join a class. Thursday 6 th, 10.00-15.00, Music Department Orchestral Extravaganza A day of music making for young musicians between the ages of 8 and 13. Wednesday 19 th Memorial Mass, 19.00, College Chapel An opportunity to hear the joint choirs perform the Faure Requiem liturgically, accompanied by the College Sinfonia. The Mass is offered in memory of Georgian family members who have died over the past year, and those associated with the College and neighbouring parishes in any way. December Monday 1 st Founder s Day Founder s Day services during the school day. Sunday 7th Service of Nine Lessons and Carols, Chapel, 19.00 (Rehearsals for all choirs from 16.30) Always a wonderful evening, the choirs re-count the Christmas story through words and music with a traditional Carol service including congregational favourites. Please note that this service fills very quickly so arrive in good time to get a seat. Tuesday 9 th Christmas Concert, Chapel, 19.30 Come and enjoy festive favourites from all the SGC ensembles and choirs. There ll be something for everyone in this concert which will showcase musicians from all years and lots of different styles of music. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 16 th - 18 th, 09.45 BBC Radio 4 Morning Worship broadcasts (live) The chamber choir performs festive music live on BBC Radio for the Daily Service broadcast from Emmanuel Church, Didsbury, Manchester. Departing Monday 15 th (pm) and returning Wednesday 17 th (pm). (the service on the 18 th is pre-recorded).
Musical events at St George s College All evening concerts and musical events at St George s are open to the public and seats are unreserved so we advise arriving in good time. Tickets are not required and generally doors open 15-20 minutes prior to events commencing. Retiring collections are usually taken at evening events and funds are shared between advertised charities and the music department to assist in the staging of future events and projects. Concerts during the school day are open to parents who must sign in at reception before making their way to the advertised concert venue. Masses and services during the school day are for pupils only and not open to the public. Ensembles are open to all pupils regardless of where they undertake their instrumental / vocal lessons.
LOOKING AHEAD BBC Radio 4 Daily Worship Live broadcasts at 09.45 on BBC Radio 4 LW of Daily Worship performed by the Chamber Choir of St George s College, Weybridge Tuesday 16 th, Wednesday 17 th, Thursday 18 th December 2014 Sunday 15 th March 2015 Beethoven Symphony No. 9 Vivaldi Gloria All are welcome to join the choir for this concert. St George s College Choral Society is open to anyone who would like to participate in this concert. The Choir rehearses on Monday evenings from January 26 th 2015 between 1900-2030 in the College Recital Room. No experience necessary just plenty of enthusiasm! Music will be available to hire.
