Music and Lyrics by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley Adapted for the Stage by Timothy Allen McDonald and Leslie Bricusse Based on the book Charlie and The Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl Community Programs Roald Dahl s timeless story of the world-famous candy man and his quest to find an heir comes to chocolate-covered life. The delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka s mysterious chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl s fantastical tale. Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder and new songs by Leslie Bricusse (Jekyll & Hyde, Doctor Dolittle) and Anthony Newley, Roald Dahl s Willy Wonka is a scrumdidilyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone s sweet tooth. Roald Dahl s Willy Wonka follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding five golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whoever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats: the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka s rules in the factory or suffer the consequences. Ages 7* to 18 (just finished senior year of high school) *Any actor younger than 9 must have approval to audition. If you have any questions, call Erica at 217-367-1544, extension 276. Rehearsal Information Monday to Thursday from 6:30-9:30pm May 23 performance dates (July 15-17) Rehearsals are at the Phillips Recreation Center. Frequency of rehearsals for an individual will depend on how many scenes they are in. Exact schedules vary within the 6:30-9:30 timeframe week to week. Some performers may rehearse up to 12 hours a week. Rehearsal times may change and frequency will increase the week just prior to the production, and may include Friday, Saturday, and Sunday meetings and rehearsals. Program Fees A fee of $100 is required and covers the cost of production materials as well as a show T-shirt and poster for each cast member. No separate costuming fees will be required, though cast members may need to supply their own individual pieces from home (such as plain-colored shirts, tights, shoes, or makeup). The program fee is due by the first rehearsal. No refunds will be given after May 31. Financial assistance is available. Please apply by May 16. Code: 3944 Community Programs Junior Performers Monday and Wednesday rehearsals from 6:30-7:30pm June 13-July 13 Ages 5-9 Phillips Recreation Center This non-musical play program gives younger actors more direct attention and performance experience than they would receive from a full-scale musical. Participants will learn basic performance skills: volume, facing out, memorization, being a good audience member, characterization, and commitment. Rehearsals will take place alongside those for the mainstage production of Willy Wonka. A matinee performance will be held on stage at Parkland College. This program is perfect for young actors who are interested in getting started in theatre but aren t ready for the rigorous rehearsal and performance schedule of our regular Youth Summer Theatre production.
