Bend the copper screen wires back over the cable jacket and fix them to the jacket with two layers of PVC Tape. Do not cut the wires. 2.2 Remove semi-conductive screen according to dimension C. Check if dimension E over primarily insulation is in accordance with value provided in Kit Selection Chart on front page. Position the copper screen sleeve onto the cable end. 3.2 Position the larger protection tube onto the cable end. 3.3 Position the smaller protection tube onto the cable end. 3.4 Place the joint body onto the other cable end. L Fig. 4 4. Remove primary insulation L according to the connector instructions. 4.2 Clean the insulation with the cleaning kit provided to fully remove any carbon residue. Connector Fig. 5 5. Install the connector according to the connector instructions. 5.2 Abrade and remove any sharp edges or burs from the connectors. If necessary, remove excess grease. 5.3 Thoroughly clean the connector. Scotch Tape 3 3 2 5 5 Fig. 6 6. Completely fill the connector screw holes with mastic tape if required. 6.2 Overtape the connector with two layers of Scotch Tape 3 (stretch to 2/3 of original width), overlapping the primary insulation for 5 mm on both sides. Start taping at the centre of the connector and proceed as shown. Fill the gap between connector and primary insulation completely. Lubricate area over connector last. Use glove provided. Fig. 8 8. Slide joint body over the connection up to Position A according to dimension M. 8.2 Shrink down joint body by turning and pulling out zip core in a counter clockwise direction. 8.3 Check position of the joint body according to given dimension after approximately 50 mm of shrinking. Apply two half-lapped layers of Scotch Rubber Mastic Tape 2228 onto the exposed semi-conductive screen. Fill out the gap between the cable jacket and the joint body. 9.2 Apply a layer of Mastic tape over the Scotch Rubber Mastic Tape 2228 at the leading edge of the cable jacket for a distance of 20 mm. Mastic Tape Copper Screen Sleeve PVC tape Fig. 0 0. Starting at the mastic tape, spread the copper screen sleeve onto the joint body and continue onto the other mastic tape, extending to obtain a tight fit to the joint body. Hold the copper screen sleeve in place using bands of PVC tape. 0.2 Trim the excess copper screen sleeve. 0.3 Apply another layer of mastic tape over the previously applied mastic tape. Bend the shield wires back over the joint area at both sides and distribute evenly over the body..2 Gather the wires into two bundles and cut them centrally between the edge of the Joint body and the cable jacket leading edge..3 Form an earth lead of the shield wires and insert both ends into the mechanical earth connectors provided..4 Install the mechanical earth connectors according to the connector instructions. Abrade and remove any sharp edges..5 Apply 2 layers of mastic tape over the previously applied mastic tape. Overlap the cable jacket by 5 mm. PVC Tape Fig. 2 2. Completely wrap the mastic tape with a layer of PVC tape. 2.2 Wrap three half-lapped layers of PVC tape over all the earth connectors. 2.3 Hold the copper wire to the joint body using bands of PVC tape with slight tension. Cut remaining Scotch Rubber Mastic Tape 2228. 4.3 Apply a second Scotch Rubber Mastic Tape 2228 - Pad over the first Scotch Rubber Mastic Tape 2228 - Pad (slightly stretched). Start at Scotch Rubber Mastic Tape 2228 leading edge Zip Core Larger Protection Tube Fig. 5 5. Slide the larger protection tube over the connection up to the end of the cable jacket sealing and shrink it down by turning and pulling out the zip core in a counter clockwise direction. 5.2 Joint complete.
