Power Consumption Measurement according to IEC 62087 EuP Measurement Sharp Aquos LC-46LE700E Burosch Audio-Video-Technik Power Consumption Measurement www.burosch.de 15.12.2009 Page 1

A. Introduction Only the power consumption with dynamic content was measured. According to the IEC 62087 the following functions have not been measured: - sound - internet content - static content - RF input consumption - power consumption of several standby modes - power consumption in SD-Card mode This measurement shows the different power consumptions with activated and disabled ECO functions of the TV. Actual consumption: [W] means the real power Apparent consumption: [VA] means the apparent power The following figures and measured values are calculated average values of the four readings seen in the diagrams. Please see the attached measure protocols and diagrams for further information. For the picture adjustment in this test the Burosch FullHD Test data sequence disc (Art. Nr. 130) was used. 9. Conclusion Figure 9 shows the different measured power consumptions of the display, measured with dynamic content, like described in the IEC 62087. The LED backlighted LCD-Display Sharp Aquos LC-46LE700E measured in default mode, use less energy than specified in the manual or on the back of the display. (See figure 8) The highest energy consumption appear when all ECO Mode Functions are switched off, the EPO mode is on and the display is not adjusted. These measurements confirm what we - at Burosch Audio-Video-Technik - have seen before from other measurements: The most power consumption is caused by the display brightness. If you compare measurement 1 with measurement 6 the power consumption for a perfect adjusted picture (evaluated by eye) consume only a little bit more power than the manufacturer preset value (around 7 W more power consumption for the adjusted display). The measurements 4 and measurement 5 have the same power consumption. This is a little bit astonishing, because all measurements we have done before show, that an adjusted display consume more power, also the display brightness for the adjusted display is higher than the default brightness value. The activation of the OPC Function - for a not adjusted display (measurement 8) - cause the highest power consumption in the whole test. In comparison to an adjusted display (measurement 7), the power consumption is 1 W higher. With Eco Mode switched to Advanced, the display only have the power consumption of a normal household light bulb (around 60 W). Like explained before, no measurements for: - sound - internet content - static content - RF input consumption - power consumption of several standby modes - power consumption in SD-Card mode have been realized. Maybe this measurements would cause a higher power consumption. The Sharp LED-Backlight technology not only cause a darker black, a higher scene contrast and blazing colors - it also seems to reduce the power consumption of the display. This is logical, because only in bright display areas the LED-Backlight is activated. So there is no power consumption for dark image areas. Maybe a comparison with an equal LCD display - without LED-Backlight technology - should be done, to see the differences. If you compare the power consumption between an older display and a new one, with better internal circuits and reduced power consumption, the acquisition costs of a new display are amortized over a short period. In default mode the display would cause annual electricity costs of around 24 Euros. Calculated for an average TV consumption of 4 hours a day and 365 days the year and 0,20 Euro/kwh. Congratulations to the Sharp Engineering Team, for the very good picture quality of the display, combined with less power consumption.
