Premiers Plans European First Film Festival 30 th edition [12 21 January 2018]

By focusing on the discovery of new talents in European cinema and on revealing its cultural heritage, the Festival Premiers Plans d Angers has become an emblematic highpoint in the cultural year. It is recognised by artists and professionals alike, is followed by a curious and enthusiastic audience, and supported by a large number of partners and personalities. Edition January 2017 319 films screened including 72 European first films in the official selection 80 000 people including 26 900 young people under 25 25 European countries represented 120 young European directors, actors, producers, screenwriters invited in Angers 700 professionals Premiers Plans in 29 years 1 470 300 people including 530 500 young people under 25 The aims of the Festival To present European directors through a selection of a hundred first films presented in six competitive sections. To discover film history and heritage thanks to retrospectives on national cinemas, tributes to major and unrecognized authors and actors alike, programmes on specific themes. Highlighting the diversity of European cinema by bringing together professionals on questions relative to the production and circulation of European films. To educate a new public on European cinema by encouraging young audiences participate in the Festival. To support scriptwriters and directors in their writing work by inviting professional actors to read scripts of first short and feature films in public before shooting the film. Jeanne Moreau President of the Jury in January 2003, Jeanne Moreau has become the presigious and faithful friend of Premiers Plans. She came back each year to meet and support the young European directors. She is actively involved in the tributes paid to Ingmar Bergman, François Truffaut, Louis Malle, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Guillaume Depardieu, Bruno Ganz and Marcello Mastroianni. She created in 2005 the Angers Workshops, directed toward young European filmmakers with one or two short films to their credit and a first feature film in the works. The Festival is sponsored by Fanny Ardant, Hélène Vincent, Dominique Besnehard, Pierre Bouteiller, Gérard Depardieu, Christophe Girard, Alain Rocca. Claude Chabrol was the President. OFFICIAL SELECTION 100 European first films Each year, more than 100 first films are screened, directed by 100 new European filmmakers: - Around 70 films in the 6 categories of the Official Competition: European first feature films, French first feature films, European first short films, French first short films, European student films, European animated films. - Around 20 other films are screened out of competition, in other categories: Free Form: A selection of courageous and innovative new films, Next Shots: Films by young directors following their discovery at the Festival Premiers Plans, Panorama Fémis: A selection of short films directed by students of the the French film school La Fémis. Air Numérique: A selection of works for the web. More than 150,000 Euros are given out in awards by juries and audiences at the end of the Festival. THE FESTIVAL OF ALL AUDIENCES Initiatives for film education Since the creation of the Festival in 1989, the film education is an integral part of its artistic project. The main objective is to reach young people, thanks to different partnerships developed throughout the year. Schoolchildren Teachers and educators are accompanying the children in the discovery of the cinema through screenings, meetings and workshops. Young out of school time VIP! Vidéo In Project For 18 years, the Angers First Film Festival gives the opportunity to young people of community centre to live actively the Festival, by creating audiovisual productions (films, photographies, radio programmes). Family The Festival pays special attention to the families, by offering a programme of films and workshops, for young people from the age of 6. Students The different partnerships make possible the realization of projects on the film education and the discovery of the film industry jobs. Adults The aim is to favor the access for people, who never came to the Festival: discovery days, training days, workshops and participation of a jury. Accessibility for people with disabilities Since 2010, the Festival has been accessible for people with disabilities and for seniors with several proposals and actions.
