Tennessee Public Library Survey General Instructions Please read the following instructions carefully and answer all questions applicable to your library. Mathematical totals occur automatically in the appropriate fields by the LibPAS tool, so it is not necessary for you to enter calculated totals. Please do not leave any questions blank. Either report an actual number or: If you can estimate the answer to a question for which you do not have an exact figure, please do so and include a note explaining that the figure is an estimate. If a question is applicable but your library had a "zero" or "none" to report for the FY, use "0". If you need to leave a "post-it" note for the regional library regarding a data question, make sure you do so in the notepad icon next to the associated input field. Local notes are entered under the question link and are for your in house use and will not be readable by regional or state administrators. Library systems with branches or other service outlets should complete Parts I-II with data from the entire system, combining statistics for all service outlets. Individual library statistics for each branch - including the main library - or other service outlet should be separated out in the branches/outlets section of the data collection form. The Library Statistics Coordinator at the State Library, along with your Regional Library contacts, wish to assist you by answering your questions and to offer whatever help you may need in completing your report. Please call 615-532-4601 or e-mail Christy.Chandler@tn.gov to speak with Christy Chandler, the State Data Coordinator, if you need further assistance than your regional library can provide. Finite simultaneous use: units of acquisition or purchase is based on the number of simultaneous usages acquired (equivalent to purchasing multiple copies of a single title). For example, if a library acquires a title with rights to a single user at a time, then that item is counted as 1 "unit"; if the library acquires rights to a single title for 10 simultaneous users, then that item is counted as 10 "units". For smaller libraries, if volume data are not available, the number of titles may be counted. Unlimited simultaneous use: units of acquisition or purchase is based on the number of titles acquired. For example, if a library acquires a collection of 100 books with unlimited simultaneous users, then that collection would be counted as 100 "units". The "unit" is determined by considering whether the item is restricted to a finite number of simultaneous users or an unlimited number of simultaneous users. Finite simultaneous use: units of acquisition or purchase is based on the number of simultaneous usages acquired (equivalent to purchasing multiple copies of a single title). For example, if a library acquires a title with rights to a single user at a time, then that item is counted as 1 "unit"; if the library acquires rights to a single title for 10 simultaneous users, then that item is counted as 10 "units." For smaller libraries, if volume data are not available, the number of titles may be counted. Unlimited simultaneous use: units of acquisition or purchase is based on the number of titles acquired. For example, if a library acquires a collection of 100 books with unlimited simultaneous users, then that collection would be counted as 100 "units".
