High School Band 1 st 9 weeks 45 days High School Unit Objectives: Students will demonstrate proper marching fundamentals. Students will perform a variety of pieces from marches to pop songs. Students will demonstrate proper concert and performance etiquette at football games and pep rallies. Students will demonstrate major scales. Lesson 1: Marching Fundamentals: forward march, halt, attention, parade rest, counter march, left and right flanks, left and right wraps, left and right to the rears, left and right obliques. Lesson 2: Working on Marches for halftime and contest drill. Lesson 3: Working on music for twirlers. Lesson 4: Working on music to play in the stands. Lesson 5: Discussion of proper behavior at football games and pep rallies. Lesson 6: Putting marches with the drill. Lesson 7: Discussion of proper behavior at marching contest. Activity Type: Marching Band Fundamentals. Rehearsal on Marches and Majorettes tunes for halftime. Monday Night Band. Materials: Sheet music, horns and percussion, and pencils SE Modifications: After school and morning tutorials will be offered everyday. Resources: Scores to the music, recordings of the music, and videos of other band performances. TA Use of metronome to help the students keep a steady beat. Use of tuner to help students with pitch. Use of data projector to watch other band videos. Use of the Eterol Machine for immediate playback.

GT Modifications: Gifted and talented students will be given a chance to tryout of all-region and solo and ensemble. Evaluation Methods: Chair tests, music playoffs, and marching critique.

Students will perform a variety of pieces from marches to holiday songs at the students Christmas Concert. Students will demonstrate proper concert and performance etiquette at Christmas Concerts. Students will demonstrate major scales, minor scales, and the chromatic scale. Lesson 1: Work through our Christmas concert pieces. Lesson 2: Demonstrate knowledge of musical terms by sight-reading many Christmas Songs. Lesson 3: Work on music for All-Region Try-outs. Lesson 4: Perform a Christmas Concert. Lesson 5: Discussion of proper behavior at concerts.

Activity Type: Rehearsal of scales and chorales. Full band rehearsals and sectionals. Christmas Concert for parents and students. Materials: Sheet music, horns and percussion, and pencils SE Modifications: After school and morning tutorials will be offered everyday. GT Modifications: Gifted and talented students will be given a chance to tryout of all-region and solo and ensemble. Resources: Scores to the music, recordings of the music. High School Band 3 rd 9 weeks: Weeks 1-6 30 Days High School Unit Objectives: Students will demonstrate knowledge of musicals terms and symbols through performing Solo and Ensemble Music. Students will perform a variety of pieces from marches to contest songs as they begin preparing for Concert and Sightreading Contest. Students will demonstrate proper concert and performance etiquette at Solo and Ensemble. Students will demonstrate major scales, minor scales, and the chromatic scale. Lesson 1: Work through our U.I.L concert pieces. Lesson 2: Demonstrate knowledge of musical terms by sight-reading many contest pieces. Lesson 3: Work on music for Solo and Ensemble. Lesson 4: Perform at Solo and Ensemble. Lesson 5: Discussion of proper behavior at concerts and contests.

Activity Type: Rehearsal of scales and chorales. Full band rehearsals and sectionals. After school work with Solo and Ensemble kids. High School Band 4 th 9 weeks: 1 3 Weeks 15 Days High School

Unit Objectives: Students will demonstrate knowledge of musicals terms and symbols through performing concert and sightreading music. Students will perform a variety of pieces from marches to contest songs as they begin preparing for Concert and Sightreading Contest. Students will demonstrate proper concert and performance etiquette at U.I.L. Concert and Sightreading Contest. Students will demonstrate major scales, minor scales, and the chromatic scale. Lesson 1: Work through our U.I.L concert pieces. Lesson 2: Demonstrate knowledge of musical terms by sight-reading many contest pieces. Lesson 3: Work on music for Sightreading at U.I.L. Lesson 4: Perform at U.I.L. Concert and Sightreading. Lesson 5: Discussion of proper behavior at concerts and contests. Activity Type: Rehearsal of scales and chorales. Full band rehearsals and sectionals. Materials: Sheet music, horns and percussion, and pencils SE Modifications: After school and morning tutorials will be offered everyday. Lesson 1: Work through our spring concert pieces. Lesson 2: Demonstrate knowledge of musical terms by sight-reading many spring concert music. Lesson 3: Perform a Spring Concert.
