BMW Showroom Shifts Up a Gear with WyreStorm NetworkHD TM / Enado TM Debut Commercial Installation Location: Durham, UK In April 2014, Inchcape PLC, one of the leading motor franchised retailer groups in the UK sought the skills and expertise of MCS to upgrade their BMW dealership located in Durham, UK into an impressive modern and functional showroom. The client s brief stipulated video distribution from multiple sources with full HD video to 15 display points and multichannel audio signals split and switched between 2 main zones, Front of House (Showroom) and Rear of House within the dealership. The solution would allow the client flexibility to be able to broadcast whatever source they required on the displays, whether it is rolling corporate video from a dedicated Blu-ray, to being able to provide news channels to customer lounge areas. and discreet way of mirroring the display on their PC to the 42 LG Commercial Monitor beside them, allowing the customer to be fully engaged in the sales process upon their new BMW purchase. When the lounge was not in use, the 42 display would then revert back to the rolling corporate video, creating a synergy across all the displays in the dealership. However, the real challenge in this particular install was the six unique BMW Customer Configuration Lounges. As a high quality HDMI over an IP network AV extender, the modular system architecture of NetworkHD was a key attraction as it removed the limitations of a conventional matrix system containing a fixed number of inputs and outputs. system by simply adding more transmitters and receivers as required by the project to provide the client with the flexible system proposed, as well as for any future input or output additions. The fact that NetworkHD functions on a basic Layer2 smart switch with minimal installation requirements made it one of the simplest HDMI over IP systems we have used, even more impressive given this was the first time the product had been installed. With NetworkHD supporting RS232 and IR pass-through, WyreStorm were able to provide a perfect solution to the unique BMW Customer Configuration Lounge in the shape of their Enado ENA-010-001 AV system controller. As modern, innovative companies, both MCS and Inchcape were incredibly proud that the Durham BMW project is the first global install of WyreStorm s NetworkHD to be controlled via their Enado system. As a versatile multi-platform, browser based AV device control solution that enables the control of connected devices from literally anywhere on site or off it, Enado was just the solution we wanted for multiple control of multiple devices using multiple devices around the dealership, or even from other Inchcape dealerships around the country, with tablets, smartphones or PCs on or off site by Inchcape staff for us, that kind of flexibility was extremely important. With the actual central Enado device a 1U 19-inch rackmounted controller, featuring 16 assignable IR ports, 8 integrated IP ports and an array of contact closures, Enado was able to sit comfortably on a traditionally secured LAN, with another major appeal of the system being its straightforward browser-based configuration tool, backed by a comprehensive IR database, built-in device editor and IR learner and a series of integrated RS232 and IP control options all of which made the system powerful, yet not too complex as to complicate configuration. As the control system is browser-based the fact that it gives the ability to remotely access the system from our offices in Burgess Hill is another a major advantage for us given the location of the project, particulary in the event of fault finding. MCS discretely installed 11 NetworkHD NHD-IP-RX receivers to display points within Front of House. room providing a number of source contents including, Freeview, two LG Blu-ray players and an option for a laptop for corporate events. An MOT viewing feed to one of the showroom displays was easily implemented as a last minute request by the client, proving the flexibility that both NetworkHD and Enado could offer. An ipad Mini, with a customised Enado user interface including BMW branded buttons and graphics, located at the dealership reception desk gave staff the ability to control which input source is being broadcasted where, as well as full control the Front of House music system. A similar Enado two-button design was installed on the desktop of each of the PCs within the BMW Customer Configuration Lounges, allowing the Sales team to simply click from corporate Blu-ray to sales material when required. Audio within the dealership is served by a professional commercial quality sound distribution system comprising Cloud series hardware including DCM-1 (Digital Control Zone Mixer) which incorporated a 6 channel, 120W CXA-6 Cloud Power Amplifier with 100V line impedance matching transformers to drive the audio across the dealership. The audio source hardware included a Denon TU604 CI DAB Tuner, loaded with 3 ACDDABE2 DAB cards and an ipod Nano. The showroom was fitted with four high quality 8 wide dispersion ceiling speakers, and a further four 6 ceiling speakers in customer restrooms. Enado took control of both source and volume level adjusts for the showroom. Rear of House audio incorporated a paging microphone allowing announcements to reach Parts, Workshop and the detached Valet building. Sales offices were provided with 42 LG LY330 displays, connected with both local HDMI and VGA connections for laptop connectivity via WyreStorm converters, as well as Raspberry Pi configuration for network distribution of sales figures. The boardroom was finished with a 60 LG LY330 incorporating a WyreStorm SW-0201-POH allowing automatic switching of both HDMI and VGA via a transmitter on the boardroom table feeding the receiver behind the display via a UTP connection. Following the success of this first installation of WyreStorm s NetworkHD controlled by Enado, MCS have since successfully installed another solution at the new build Audi dealership in Tunbridge Wells, UK and are now in the process of similar solutions for Volkswagen in West London and another Cooper s BMW in Reading, UK, each of which will be the largest dealerships in Europe for each brand respectively. The success of these projects and the continued use of them in larger, higher profile flagship projects for Inchcape s brands is undoubtedly due in large part to the quality of product and service offered by WyreStorm and the effectiveness of NetworkHD and Enado in commercial solutions that consistently surpassed the client s expectation.
