Evan Johanson Evan Johanson, age 16, is a junior at Roosevelt High School in Seattle and currently studies violin with Simon James. His past teachers include Sanja Futterman, Walter Schwede, Margaret Pressley, Jan Mark Sloman, and he has participated in master classes with additional teachers Robert Lipsett, Mimi Zweig, Cornelia Heard, William Preucil, Grigory Kalinovsky, Danielle Belen, Steven Rochen, Gerardo Riberio, and Dr. Ann Sezter. Evan has soloed with the Seattle Festival Orchestra,, and Philharmonia Northwest, and this coming season he will perform with the Seattle Youth Symphony and Seattle Symphony. He has served as Concertmaster of the Seattle Youth Symphony and the 2015 All-Northwest Orchestra, and has won awards at State Solo and Ensemble Contest, SMTA s Simon-Fiset String Competition, MTNA s Washington State String Competition, Performing Arts Festival of the Eastside Competition (Grand Prize Winner), Seattle Young Artist Music Festival Competition, Seattle Symphony Young Artist Competition, and KING-FM Young Artist Competition. Evan was also a five-year recipient of the Dorothy Richard Starling Violin Scholarship, and he has represented Roosevelt High School at Central Washington University s Orchestra Leadership Workshop. Evan s summer studies have included Interlochen Center for the Arts, Meadowmount School of Music, and Apple Hill Chamber Music Festival. This summer he was part of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America, which performed at Carnegie Hall and in a seven-city concert tour of China. Adagio di molto III. Allegro, ma non tanto Alexei Girsh Alexei Girsh has conducted the since 1992. Born and educated in Russia, he attained his Bachelor s Degree at Glinka Conservatory in Novosibirsk and Master s Degree-Conductor of Symphony and Opera-from the Mussorgsky Conservatory in Ekaterinburg. In Russia, he was highly acclaimed as principal conductor of the Radio-Television Symphony of Vladivostok, Music Director of the St. Petersburg Youth Symphony and a professor at the Institute of the Arts in St. Petersburg. Since moving to the United States, he has been Music Director of the Washington Wind Symphony (Redmond, 1993-96), the Youth Philharmonic Northwest (Redmond, 1994-96), and the Bellevue Ballet Orchestra (1996-99). He is currently Music Director and conductor of the, Music Director of the Renton Youth Symphony orchestra, Artist and Music Director of the Concert Opera of Seattle, and conductor of the Boeing Concert Band. In 2000 he was honored with the city of Redmond s Patron of the Arts Award. Along with these activities, his portfolio includes a number of published arrangements and recordings.
