Ebony and her little gang of friends! 9 th grade using your 8 th grade study plan Peer editing Day 25 A long, long time ago in a far away land ok maybe not in a FAR AWAY land but it was in Germany and maybe not a long time ago but two years. I was trying out for a play in one of my classes Ebony Scrooge. Something like it was Ebenezer Scrooge just all the characters flipped from being a male to a female part. Super fun by the way if you ever get the chance after reading this AMAZING essay you should look it up and read it or perform it even. Have all the sound effects and the costumes. We went all the way out with it and that counts the music as she fell. The pounding feet in the kitchen or backstage, the jingling of silver wear was from the silver wear on her costumes. Whenever you read me put actor down I am talking about both females and males. I can imagine you right now, But wait Delanie aren t females called actresses when their in show business?. Yes they are but when you re talking about a group of both genders then it will be actors. If you will just continue reading to hear more about the play I would be oh so ever grateful. Now we have to start with the characters that we had to work with and the actors who played these wonderful parts. The first one was Ebony Scrooge played by Israel; Ebony was a restaurant owner who is urbane. Then we have little Ebony who was played by Ceara, Little Ebony was a little girl who was rude to her mother and was an insidious little brat. Then we have teenage Ebony she was played by Yamira, Teenage Ebony was more of a sad girl with anger issues but you couldn t help feel sorry for her. Then we have Cratchet who is played by Alicia, she worked for Ebony has a husband and three kids and is a respectable woman she is very kind hearted and stressed because of Ebony who doesn t care. Then there is Sister Sadie played by Becca, Sister Sadie is a nice gentle fun loving lady who is benevolent. Then
there is Sister Katie who is played by Adriana, she is as well nice gentle loving and fun to be around, she also she is benevolent. They both work for the sisters of suffering charity fund and they are the total opposite of tweedledee and tweedldum but they have the funny factor that those twins have and always finish each other s sentences. We have Tiny Tammie who is played by Winter; she is a crippled little girl who is amicable Then Now the Cratchet family we re going to start with the father of the family John he is played by Greg, he is a hard worker and sometimes has to work overtime like his wife Roberta Cratchet who I have already mentioned just not the first name. Now Jenny who is played by me, she was a high spirited girl who wants her presents before she can eat even. Then we have Sam who is just as excited and high spirited as his sisters on the idea of getting gifts. The other Cratchet s I have already mentioned. Mrs. Bessau was the BEST teacher director ever. When she wasn t helping us with the play she was helping us learn about the theatre and giving us tips on for when we are acting what it should sound like and how far your voice should carry. One of the first things we learned was projection and that got through our heads QUICK. We always were standing on the balcony when some people were up on stage to test if their projection was loud enough. It was fun because when we had to tell them to project we had to project so they could hear us. Then we learned patients because it took forever for us to go through the play so we could block the play meaning that we could know where people were suppose to stand and what to pick up when simple stuff like that. Sometimes we went through certain scenes ten times a day because we were being extremely cursory. We learned that it might look fun when were in the audience but it takes a long time to get everything just perfect. We all found a way to put a little twist on it and have fun. We would say it in different voices until Mrs. Bessau said we were doing it for real now then we all got a lot less lines wrong then we did before. When we were doing dress rehearsals we needed lights so Mrs. Bessau dedicated half of a day for all of us to learn how to use the lights. And as a director she would not let us up on memorizing our lines. When we were in English class,
she was the teacher for that too; she asked us if we had any work and if we were in her drama we couldn t say no and to study our lines for the play. To help us in case we ever got stuck and didn t know what to do we played improve games to come up with some lines as we went and acted as it were a perfectly normal line and that it was in the script. She helped go through every room and outfit as we were trying to find out what each character should wear. She d tell us little bits of what wrong with some of the outfits and what the best parts of others were small things like that. Before we practiced Mrs. Bessau would always talk to us in the morning before we started practice about what went good and what we needed to work on for that day. And before we performed the play with an audience she gave us an amazing prep talk that was funny and made all of our nerves calm down. Before the play started we are all behind the curtains in our separate groups either practicing our lines or playing improve games or getting changed into our costumes because some take longer than others. We all have to be as quiet as we could to ignore all the noise of the people off stage. Then Mrs. Bessau just told us all to come up to the stage and gather in a circle. Her prep talk made us all laugh and ready to perform because we are filled with fortitude and are huge humans and everyone in the audience are puny ants then we prayed to have help with our play and for everybody to enjoy it and not think that it s just a waste of their time to come and watch a middle school play. Then, lights uh oh, audience attention please the plays starting just sit back and, action enjoy. Phew that was a relief that went quicker than I thought it would be and we were all meticulous. Oh hey, yeah the performance was GREAT we did a phenomenal job if I do say so myself. Everybody was laughing and enjoying themselves just as we were both working hard and enjoying ourselves on stage well better go get changed into my normal clothes and perform our carols be right back back. Alright our carols were a success I do believe but extremely weird to perform. They were our remakes of two Christmas carols. We insulted Justin Biebers singing by putting earmuffs on to muffle it out. Alright my mom s saying time
to go home I have school tomorrow. Oh and by the way we all had the right type of attitude from dour Ebony all the way down to our amicable little Tammie. Class is starting and we get to watch our performance instead of watching everybody performing their parts. We did amazing we were all adroit and extravagant. We are trying to determine what everybody s strong point and to give them feedback on what they could have made better. I really liked how Alicia was using intimation when she asked ebony if she was just messing around or if she was being solemnly truthful. Mrs. Bessau just brought in pizza and soda. Talk about the best culinary I ever had. And the movie is hilarious it s a movie of all the Shakespeare plays shortened and played by only two guys. They got the audience involved as well. This gives us all some ideas about how we can do that for plays we ll be in, in the future. And we got to sit on the floor with blankets or lie on the floor and stay all nice and comfortable while filling up on junk food! It was so much fun we all enjoyed it. So that s that I guess. Our last class just got out and we re done with the play so we no longer have drama. I acted nonchalant about missing that class. But I was no longer craven but I was filled with undutiful fortitude. It was fun and exciting and beneficial so I now know a lot about acting I m omniscient. Ok maybe not but I now do know more than I did. So after the play went great and our last class we all went to our different classes. None of us really mentioned the play afterwards unless we were trying to be sarcastic with someone we used lines from the play. Who knows maybe one of these days someone from our class will become an actor or actress and be opulent and thank everyone in that class? We never know.
