Matt Wetmore SSAATTBB a cappella 201
Performance Notes The Bass 2 notes in m. 9 can be accented to help upper parts find ir starting pitches The hispers in m. 7 should last entire bar. Though dynamic is marked piano, loud hispers ill likely be necessary for balance. The breath mark in m. 56 should be a short but noticeable break, no longer than an eighth note. n m. 62, second sopranos and first altos are marked fortissimo; this is done for balance purposes since y ill be covered significantly in that range y are not meant to sound louder than rest choir. An arro leading from one ord or syllable to anor indicates a slo, even shift beteen to over course given note. Program Notes is a setting poem by William Ernest Henley. Full dramatic imagery, this poem as perfect to explore harmonies that clash and dynamics that jump suddenly from one to next until a clear, triumphant emerges in final stanza: " am master, am captain!"
