Teacher's Instructions - Romeo and Juliet A2/B1 All the activities in this pack can be used in pairwork or groupwork. You can make one photocopy per student or one per group. The front page works as a poster for the show, so you could print several copies and enlarge them on a photocopier to pin up around the classroom or school. Romeo 1.Play the recording as many times as necessary, giving students time to write down the correct answers. Check answers in open class. 2. Give students time to familiarise themselves with the words in bold in each paragraph. Ask students to answer the questions. Check the answers in open class, helping with pronunciation as necessary. Juliet 1. Ask students how many of the adjectives (if any) they know. Give students time to match the adjectives and descriptions. You can check their understanding by translating the words. You can also check pronunciation as necessary. In open class ask a student to choose two or three adjectives they think describe themselves. Encourage them to use very/quite/a bit/not very etc. by asking "Very sociable? Or just a bit sociable?" Ask other students if they agree; "Do you think Marco is generous?" Ask another student to choose a word which they think does not describe them. Elicit a response; "I'm not (very) easygoing." 2. Students work individually. Check the answers in open class, helping with pronunciation as necessary. The other student should test them by saying "She's + adjective". The other student should try to remember the definition. This can then be reversed. You may want to model this with a student first. Mercutio 1. Ask students to describe themselves following Mercutio's example. You can write extra vocabulary on the blackboard. 2.+3. In pairs, ask students to practise the dialogue provided. Make sure the pairs swap the roles. You can also repeat the exercise in open class. Tybalt 1. Play the song a few times for students to complete the text. They should then sing along to the song, which appears in the play. Encourage them to learn the words. An instrumental version of the song is included in the listening materials for karaoke, or your students can write their own lyrics. 2.+3. Direct students to the phrases "to go with the flow" and "to harm a hair on your head" (2. to do what other people are doing - 3. to hurt someone). Paris 1. Students should familiarise themselves with the words in bold. Ask them to match the words with the same meaning. 2. Give students time to complete the word search.
