As the current stewards of Schools, the purpose of these branding guidelines is to provide guidance for each stakeholder to present our institutional branding. If every message comes from the same conceptual core, we will present an institution whose whole is greater than the sum of its parts. By using the tools and guidelines contained within these Brand Standards, we create a unique look and feel that will make Schools recognizable to all audiences. wearebeechwood. Brand Standards Name and Logo Brand Assets The name and logo are two of the School s most important and visible brand assets, and we all share responsibility to ensure that they are used effectively. Independent Schools (BIS) is the primary name and logo of the school. Elementary School (BES) and High School (BHS) are the secondary logos and may be be used when required to identify the appropriate school. In normal day-to-day written and verbal communications, and after the first reference, Independent Schools can be referred to as: ; The District; School(s) ; or with the appropriate abbreviated initials of BIS, BES, BHS. Primary: Independent Schools The Independent Schools logo incorporates four graphic elements: the cupola; the name (title case); the center keyline; and the title, INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS (all caps). These four items must not be separated when representing the School. See Reproduction. INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS When representing the complete district, only the Independent Schools logo should be used. When identification calls for distinction of Elementary or High School, the secondary logos may be used. Secondary: Elementary High School ELEMENTARY HIGH SCHOOL
3 Safe Area Allow minimum clearance of d-height (indicated by the light grey area) around the logo. This height is measured from top to bottom of the lowercase d in. This will allow the logo to stand out cleanly. In addition, the safe area must be preserved near a cut or folded edge. INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS d Reversed In Red When possible, use the full-color logo against a solid white background; or the reversed full-color logo against a solid red (refer to approved color specifications). Graphic files approved for reproduction should be obtained from the Office of the Superintendent.
Brand Standards Logo Do s and Don ts Clear Branding on all Official Materials DO seek approval from School office on all materials representing the school brand. DON T allow vendors to make decisions regarding how the brand is used. Clearance and Cropping DO leave ample room around the logo. DON T crop the logo or align it to the edge of the page. See Safe Area on p3. Color DO use the logo in full-color against a red or white background whenever possible. DON T use any unapproved colors or color combinations. See Logo Colors on p.9 Integrity DO maintain the design integrity of the logo. DON T add other design elements to the logo (e.g. outlines, strokes, or dropshadow), or reconfigure the logo design. One Brand DO place the logo at a safe distance from other logos. DON T use the logo as part of a sentence, phrase, or headline.
5 Placement DO integrate the logo as a key component into your design. DON T add the logo in any remaining space as an afterthought. Production DO use approved graphic files supplied by the Office of the Superintendent. DON T attempt to reproduce the schools primary or secondary logos or any supporting logo of Independent Schools. Proportion DO maintain the proportions of the logo. DON T alter, stretch, or condense the logo or re-align any of the logo components. Size DO use the correct size logo. Brand Standards Fonts Official Logo Font Typefaces or fonts play a subconscious, yet important role in brand identity. The official Independent Schools logo is displayed using using a combination of both title case and upper case letters using Libre Baskerville, Bold. The Schools logo is displayed for type reference only. Attempts to recreate the logo is strictly prohibited without use of graphic files approved for reproduction. INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS Environmental and Vehicle Graphics Libre Baskerville, Bold should be used for all environmental and vehicle graphics, including interior and exterior building signage, and vehicles representing the school s clubs and sports. The letters should be displayed in title case, with the initial letters capitalized and the remaining letters in lower case. 7 Communications For professionally printed communications and web, the approved fonts are Source Sans Pro and Source Serif Pro. A combination of a serif header with sans serif body copy is the recommended standard for all communications (except correspondence). A sans serif font may also be used for subheads and subtitles. Brand Standards The Seal The Seal is a symbol of the Superintendent and the Board of Education. It reflects the heritage and history of Independent Schools, the office of the Superintendent and the pride of the Board of Education. Use of the seal is restricted to the Superintendent or the Board of Education for recognition of prestigious scholarly achievements. The seal is also appropriate for permanent markers, such as architectural elements produced in stone, metal or glass, and for regalia and class rings. Attempts to recreate the seal is strictly prohibited. Graphic files approved for reproduction should be obtained from the Office of the Superintendent. Brand Standards The Academic Symbol The Academic Symbol of Independent Schools is representated below. As a symbol of the original building s widely recognized dome, the cupola represents the school s history of academic excellence in the community. Attempts to recreate the academic symbol is strictly prohibited. Graphic files approved for reproduction should be obtained from the Office of the Superintendent. When used as a symbol, the width of the red field should not extend further than the base of the cupula graphic. Elementary Conference Room When used on signage or identifying school materials, the red field may be expanded in width to accommodate the desired title or name. All graphics must be approved prior to production.

Back of Business Card When used as a backgound effect, the academic symbol may be displayed through a special offset printing technique of applying a clear UV coating of either gloss or matte to the solid field of red. In special cases, and with approval, the effect may be produced by a screen of white or grey (as shown above on back of business card). Examples of the UV effect can be found on the cover of this Brand Standards..5 DON T attempt to resize the logo to smaller than.5 inches in width. Special artwork is available for approved social media applications.
Brand Standards The Wordmark We are is the primary wordmark of Independent Schools and is reserved for use on promotional school materials that tell the school s story. When used graphically, the wordmark should only be displayed as red type or as white type on a field of red. It may also be used as white type reversed out of a photograph for use on a brochure or folder. Attempts to recreate the wordmark is strictly prohibited. Brand Standards The B The B is the approved symbol for extracurricular spiritwear. Modeled after the varsity letter, the B may be customized to represent a club, committee or sport. Custom titles should be displayed in upper case Source Sans Pro Black, as indicated by the examples shown below and to the right. Titles should be placed directly below the B with font size enlarged to fit the width of the letter. The tracking (space between letters) of the title should not be expanded or contracted to fit within the space. The entire word should be enlarged or reduced to fit the width. Brand Standards Athletic Marks The Tiger Paw is the primary athletic/extracurricular mark and is approved for use on varsity and and all sanctioned sports and clubs. This includes graphics on practice and warm-up clothing. Intramural sports and items created for wellness events and activities may also use athletics graphics, but are not required to do so. Any use of athletics graphics must follow style guidelines. The Tiger Claw is the secondary athletic mark and is restricted to spiritwear or promotional items. Attempts to recreate the athletic marks is strictly prohibited. Graphic files approved for reproduction should be obtained from the Office of the Superintendent. The Tiger Paw and Tiger Claws are never permitted to represent academic or administrative units and programs of the school. Tiger Paw Do not use the Tiger Paw with a dropshadow.
