Lovereading4kids Reader reviews of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Double Down by Jeff Kinney Below are the complete reviews, written by the Lovereading4kids members. Scarlett Coffman, age 10 I have read all of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books and I was very excited when this book came out. It was much funnier than other books because Greg is still so awkward and he always mucks up. This book was about Halloween and each chapter would include memories of the things he had done before about Halloween and situations from other books. He would write about things he had done with Rowley (his best friend). Everything he does, the world seems to disagree with him. I mostly enjoyed the bit where his mum came to the Halloween party and played games which everyone loved and I liked when he got his French horn and instead of playing it, he mimed it. When it came to the concert, the good French horn player dropped out so Greg would have been on his own and instead of embarrassing himself he locked himself in the music room so he didn t have to perform. I would recommend this book to people who like a good joke and find themselves in awkward situations. This book gets my thumbs up and a 9.5 out of 10.

Bryher Humphryes, age 12 It is a hilariously funny book which I really enjoyed. Diary of a wimpy kid; double down is about a boy called Greg Heffley and with his diary he tells all about his problems. It is a hilariously funny book which I really enjoyed. It was so good I read it in half an hour. My favourite character is Rowley Jefferson who was Greg's best friend because he is goofy and clumsy. This book should be aimed at children ages 6 and above. Overall I would give this a 5 stars. Enora Hauduc, age 8 I really liked the Diary of a Wimpy Kid because it was really funny to read and I would recommend this book for anyone who likes humour. The illustrations in this book always make me smile! Zoe Basson, age 9 Double Down is a book filled with humour, friendship and a touch of teenage video games. This fantastically funny book took me to the depths of Greg's imagination as he survives Halloween, tries to make a movie and deals with friends, old and new, as well as a pig! Buddug Griffith, age 8 The newest book in the 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' series, you HAVE to put this on your wish list! Really, really funny - 10 out of 10! I love the 'Wimpy Kid' books and couldn't wait to read the latest one. This new book has Greg joining a band and making a movie. The story is just as funny as all the other books, and I particularly liked what he did with the gummy worms! You don't have to have read the other 'Wimpy Kid' books to enjoy this (but you should read them anyway!) If you're a fan like me then you know that you HAVE to put this on you Christmas list! Really, really funny and 10 out of 10!

Daisy Pritchard-Williams, age 12 Greg was really funny and Rowley is really silly but the pig was my favourite. I really enjoyed Diary of a Wimpy Kid; Double Down. However I do recommend this for readers younger than me, I am 12. I thought the story line was very entertaining but I thought that the beginning dragged a little and the main part of the story hung on right till the end. I haven t read this series for a while so it took me a while to catch up, but when I did it was really good, Greg was really funny and Rowley is really silly but the pig was my favourite. I thought it was funny that Greg thought his life was being videoed for a TV show which reminded me of myself a bit. I recommend this book for any readers aged from 8+ Jessica Cobbin I really like the fact that something always goes wrong in Greg's life. I like the diary set up and hearing Greg's thoughts. He has got an older brother and a younger brother who are always annoying him. I basically read this book in one day as I loved it so much. I only got it yesterday and I've read it already. James Goodall, age 12 3/4 I think that Diary of a Wimpy Kid Double Down book is absolutely FANTASTIC! I have been a fan of the series ever since the first book came out. It was witty, funny and awesome. The new book has to be the funniest in the series yet. It all starts out with Greg telling you his theories of planet earth. For example, Greg thinks that flies are actually drones made by aliens to spy on us from the safety of their spaceships! Basically the whole book is small short stories that make you laugh and never want to put the book down. My favourite story, is when Greg wants to find the secret stash of sweets that his mom has hidden from him. He calls his friend Rowley over to help him find the sweets. Greg then finds the sweets on his own and then has an idea. He tells his friend that they should make a horror movie about the sweets and call it night of the night-crawlers. Rowley agrees and they start filming the movie. In short, the movie does not end well, resulting in

the fire brigade trying to coax a terrified Rowley out of a tree. Just by reading this, you are probably thinking to yourself that that is pretty funny. If that is so, then pick up this book. If you are looking for a book that might give you a laugh or two, this is the book for you! My final rating of this book all in all, is a solid 9.5\10! I think it is one of the best books I have read this year! If you truly are a fan of this series, pick this one up as it is the best yet! Daniel Bisland, age 9 This book is about Greg. This story starts in Greg s school. The school have a Talented and Gifted program for the clever kids. Greg s mum wants him to join it but he didn t do very well! So, she complained and then he was put in a group called Champ who had secret meetings on a Tuesday and Thursday. When he got there, he realised it was for people who can t say their rs like Greg. But soon it became a free for all fun time! Greg quickly learns his rs so he gets thrown out. A few weeks later, there is a book fair. Greg buys lots of things other than books, which is what his mum wanted him to buy. So, he has to trade his items for books. He got the weird Spineticklers books by I.M. Spooky. Halloween arrives shortly after and this is when they have the Balloon Brigade at school. They have to send balloons with messages to win a prize! That same night is Halloween and Greg and Rodrick (his brother) had no candy as Greg went to a party. With the leftover candy that mum had bought for the trick or treaters, Greg tries to make a film. BUT does he manage to do it? I recommend this book to 8+. I give it 5 stars. I love the Wimpy Kid series! I especially like the pictures in the books. Tom Greenan, age 11 Just as funny as all the others. This book is just as good as all the others in the series. I really recommend it to anyone from the ages 7-12. This is a great story as, not only is it funny but you don t have to have read the rest of them to know what s happening. Greg (the main character) and his best friend Rowley get into loads of silly situations and find ways to get out of trouble, only to find that the solutions to the problems just get them into more trouble. Greg is just an average kid. Or maybe not. He has two brothers, a mum and dad and a pet pig that is crazy but very clever and can open jars, fridges, drinks cans and a lot more!

I really loved this book right from page one and recommend it to anyone with a sense of humour. Elizabeth Bridgeman, age 9 I love the series so I loved reading this book. My favourite part was when Greg's mum came to a Halloween party and brought homemade party games.i love the series so I loved this book! This should be for ages 7+ because under 7 will not understand. My favourite part is when Greg says that instead of a movie with a guy secretly being filmed but HE might be being filmed RIGHT NOW! I would rate it 4 and a half because I found it a bit too much funny its an amazing book and I would love to read it over and over again but then it will be boring. Twitter: @RACHELb75 Beatrice Whithear, age 9 Another great Wimpy Kid book, but even better. Lots of laugh out loud bits about Greg Heffley's life. I have read a few Wimpy Kid books before but I loved this one. I was so disappointed when it had finished that I wanted to read it again straight away. There is so many laugh out loud moments in this book like the belly button bit, learning to use the toilet and the gummy worms. His mum makes me laugh, especially when she takes Greg and Rowley to the Halloween party. The drawings are excellent as usual and kept me laughing all the way through. Cant wait for the next one. I wish there was a boy in my class like the Wimpy Kid, school would be fun. 10/10. Ben Carter, age 11 Definitely the best book in the series so far. Amazingly funny, I couldn't put it down. I loved the ending because it made me laugh out loud.

I think Jeff Kinney is a great author and should carry on writing these books. Emelia Thomas, age 8 This book is a very funny read and I couldn't put it down! It is told in the first person and is therefore easy to understand because there are not too many characters to get to grips with. My favourite character has to be the pig because he is mischievous and cute (he has big eyes!) I have read all the Wimpy Kid books and this one is just as good as the others. Fans of the series will really enjoy this new story.
