Technical information TI 039R/09 / e / 08.94 Part No.: 500 70 089 Hybrid recorder mega-log tn Universal line strip chart recorder with patented colour dot overwrite technology, 2, 3, or 6 analogue input for reliable multi channel recording. Application areas For multi channel recording without compromising response time. Where value is placed on: secure recording for long term monitoring and quality control combination record of a number of process related parameters precise identification of value changes clear limit infringement identification due to colour markings economical replacement for two normal line strip chart recorders Advantages Parallel recording of various fast signals Safe documentation due to patented Overwrite technology Reliable recording when the colour runs out Continuous information in your own language Universal connection of most frequently used analogue and digital signals Modular concept for optimum problem solving System compatible via serial interface Comprehensive text information both in the display and on the chart.
Mega-Log TN Unit features Patented Overwrite technology The combination of the advantages of industrially proven FAX technology with long term colour recording guarantees a safe and secure record. Fast channel identification due to colour. Clear proof of limit infringements due to coloured markings. No information is lost even when the coloured print wheel dries out, the black Safety lines continue the recording. Time and amplitude correct recording due to the continuous thermal record. The high resolution (8 dots/mm) fully maintenance free linear array thermal print head makes sure of the following even without ink: Reliable recording using Safety line. High resolution text printouts. Individual grids and scale printout for each channel. Recording only the most important section of the signal range ( Zoom ) and recording this on a preselectable section of the chart ( Zoning ). Always operational in real time, even on varying paper feed rates, due to date and time printout. The principle is simple: All channels are burnt into the paper simultaneously, without time offset, as a single colour (black) trace. These lines are then traced in colour using a multi colour print wheel. The unit can be set up to trace continuously or only in the case of a limit infringement. Overwrite principle: 1 Spikes Safety line indicates where swift changes occurred 2 Limit values Colour marks the trace when it becomes critical 3No ink Safety line writes when others loose their colour Variable analogue inputs Each channel can be set to its individual input signal. All inputs are galvanically isolated from each other as well as the system, can be calibrated by push buttons and are measured very quickly (10 times per second). Select the correct amplifier board: Standard input board for economic measurement of current (0/4...20mA) and voltage (0...1/10V) Universal input board (option) for selectable measurement of the most frequently used types of analogue signals (+/- mv/v/ma, RTDs, thermocouples and current and voltage measurement as on the standard input board). 2 x 20 digit fluorescent display Display The 2 x 20 digit fluorescent display is integrated in the recorder door. The advantages are: Operation even with a locked door (changes to the set up can only be done by using a security code). Measured values are displayed as digital or analogue values (trend bar graph) Read off values even in direct sunlight.
Roll chart or Z fold paper The Mega-Log T recorder operates with either roll chart or Z fold paper. Roll chart paper for long term recording. Z fold paper for quick convenient viewing even when recording. KCombination cassette for roll and Z fold paper Limit monitoring Five individually presettable limits per channel initiate on request an event printout, activate relays or preset the paper feed rate to your chart requirement. Built-in timer You select the times and weekdays when your recorder needs to be operational. The advantages are: You minimise paper usage. You have a quick overview of process data because unimportant data is not recorded. Mega-Log TN Expanded functions/ Options Automatic signal analysis Your recorder analyses the incoming signal into minimum, maximum and average values per channel over preset time cycles. At the end of the preset time the values are then printed out in a table including measurement point identification, times and engineering units. Loop power supply You can directly power up two wire transmitters (eg. temperature head transmitter) from the recorder. Relays On request relays can be used to transmit limit infringements and faults. The unit is always supplied with one fault / limit relay. Three further limit relays can be fitted (option). The stationary linear array thermal print head records fast spikes Text explains the graphic On demand the mega-log TN will record colour only on limit infringement - thus making limits easily recognisable. The Safetyline continues to record where others loose out on
Mathematic (virtual) channels. Mathematic module Let your recorder calculate! In addition to the normal analogue channels the recorder can have additional channels by mathematically combining the real channels (eg. difference for differential pressure, multiplication for usage calculation for current and voltage). These Mathematic channels can be used in the same way as real inputs (recording, analysis, limit monitoring etc.). Operation using control inputs You can make your recorder operate on external signals. These signals can: change the paper feed rate add explanatory text to the record add the instantaneous values by operating a push button preset the measuring time cycle or suppress recording, eg. when servicing (should only be used in combination with signal analysis). Counting and quantity recording The mega-log t can record quantities by using two impulse counter inputs and/or integrating the analogue input signals. The recorder prints these values out in an easy to read tabular report giving measurement period, daily, monthly and total quantities. Mega-Log TN Accessories, Operation Accessories Spade to screw terminal plug on adaptors. In strips for all signal inputs, control inputs and power supply. Configuration, readout and setting up software Readex T on disk (IBM compatible computers, is always delivered with the serial interface option) Roll chart paper (unprinted, 120 mm wide, approx. 20 m long) Z fold paper (unprinted, 120 mm wide, 12 m long) Setting up / operation Matching the recorder to the measurement application and reading out values can be done at the recorder or remotely (using a PC). Local input and read-out. Local operation is done using the film keypad on the front of the recorder All setting up steps are divided into functional groups. This means that all general parameters (such as feed rate, date and time) or channel specific values are allocated in individual setting up chapters. Benefits: Swift access to single setting up positions for changes or corrections. Structured and user led system for initial setting up. Expansion options are easy to add. Changing values is possible by following a simple schematic using five operation keys. The display assists you in every step of the way using explanatory text. If the unit is not being set up the actual values can be: called up singly displayed as a numeric value or in the form of a trend bar graph displayed in a scroll sequence for single or all channels. On request even minima, maxima, average values and counter values can be displayed. Display: Trend bar graph rising
Mega-Log TN Exapanded functions / Interfaces Dynamic process control DPC Using this interface the recorder can learn and store the sequence of a repeating process (batches). Variations from a stored reference process in subsequent processes y Block time Limit monitoring are dynamically monitored for infringement of preset tolerance bands. If infringement occurs the effect is the same as limit infingement (text printout, feed rate change, activate relay). A1 A2 -tz +tz t y(tn) Dynamic process control DPC Proces start: Activate control input (terminal 83) Time window tz for memorized values (here for value y(tn)) Process end: Deactivate contol input (terminal 83) Serial interface / PC programme Readex T The alternatively selectable interfaces (RS 232, RS 422/485) can be connected to process systems. The Readex T PC programme enables: Remote setting up and storing of various unit parameters Text printout on the recorder Central readout of instantaneous values/daily minima, maxima, average values/counter values all dependent on the unit configuration. Memory / readout of signal analyses The signal analysis, compiled min, max and average (or counter value) information can be stored in the unit (RAM 128 KByte or 512 KByte). These can be transmitted to a PC, displayed there and stored on the hard disk drive (eg. for further analysis using spread sheets). This is also included in the Readex T software.
