About the Product The Light Link Series 2 (EDFA) has been designed for cable television applications. The unit is suitable for long haul transmission networks and for high density FTTH distribution networks. The optical amplifier is packaged in a self-contained 19 sub-rack of 1 RU with universal mains power supply and SNMP management as standard inclusions to provide a complete solution. The optical output power levels can be ordered from 20 mw (13 dbm) to 1280 mw (31 dbm). Up to 80 mw, a single pump laser is used. The larger EDFA units employ up to four pump lasers in a four-stage design with inter-stage isolators. Light Link Series 2 is designed to extend a 1550 nm CATV system fibre without need to convert back to RF. Combined with our LTE152 externally modulated laser transmitter, long range feeder lines and high subscriber count FTTH networks are now easy to deploy. Features High flexibility and reliability. Suitable for analog and digital television systems, DOCSIS, CATV, FTTH and more applications. Suits 1550 nm DWDM applications for multiple wavelengths on single fibre. EDFA optical amplifier technology to extend analog and digital CATV to suit long distance feeders or larger FTTH distribution systems. Notes (1) The listed output power ratings are total combined optical power for the EDFA gain block. High output modules employ an integrated optical splitter limiting the output per port to approximately 17 dbm. For instance, an EDFA-80-2-SC has two output ports with 40 mw (16 dbm) each, totalling 80 mw. In cable television applications no more than 50 mw (17 dbm) launch level per fibre line should be planned to avoid excessive Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) in the fibre lines. Back-scatter can significantly reduce CNR and CSO performance. Hence the models with 80 mw or more total power should be ordered with an appropriate split, keeping the power per port to a safer and more manageable level. (2) Optical input levels below 0 dbm may result in reduced optical output power and inadequate CNR for typical CATV applications. Optical input levels more than 0 dbm do not increase the rated optical output level (limiting). Optical input levels exceeding +6 dbm may adversely affect the EDFA Noise Figure and the input level monitoring accuracy.
