Orchestra T he Stevenson Orchestra program is built around three orchestras. Chamber ensembles, outreach activities, special cultural and social activities are developed to enhance the orchestras and enrich the orchestra members. Group travel to Italy in the spring of 2008 is an example of the wonderful experiences awaiting the orchestra student at Stevenson. P atriot Orchestra is our top orchestra. Enrollment is limited to grades 10, 11, & 12. For two concerts per year the top winds and percussion are brought in to perform standard full orchestra fare in classical and pops repertoire. C oncert Orchestra is the ensemble in which all students not currently enrolled in orchestra will be placed. Auditions are NOT required for enrollment in Concert Orchestra, however previous experience in orchestra is expected. There are currently 3 sections of Concert Orchestra. The Fine Arts division at Adlai E. Stevenson High School excels in fine arts education and has courses for everyone - in all areas and at all levels. Students in the Fine Arts experience the actual application of knowledge and skills on a daily basis with culminating work often approaching or achieving professional levels. Greg Diethrich, Executive Director Administrative Assistants Jacqueline Gray Karen Kiefer The fine arts faculty challenges students to think beyond the classroom, while never losing sight of its mission to instill a life-long love for, appreciation of, and involvement in the arts. Beyond providing a well-balanced education that focuses equally on the process of learning as well as the product of one s efforts, Stevenson students regularly perform to raise money for charities and other worthy causes. Appreciating the arts is so important at Stevenson High School that it suspends the regular class schedule for two days every two years to conduct a fine arts festival for more than 4,000 students. Stevenson s fine arts teachers also provide a model for collaboration that has gained attention from educators in other academic areas. Inquiries concerning the fine arts courses or activities, or related educational programs should be directed to: Jonathan Grice, Director of Fine Arts Dr. John Carter, Principal Dr. Eric Twadell, Superintendent Tanya Panova 10 Stevenson High School Fine Arts students develop an amazing work ethic, along with a high level of proficiency and sophistication of work. We offer a rigorous fine arts curriculum that rivals many university programs in its scope. It challenges students to think creatively, encourages risk taking, and enables students to apply their problem-solving skills beyond the classroom.
