Pattern: subject + would + main verb + if clause + were Examples: He would be promoted if he were friends with the boss. She would be famous if she were a good singer. Remember: The word if followed by I/ he/ she/ it/ uses the verb were regardless of the number and the person (first, second and third person) of the subject.
