Printed on Rives paper in Caslon type by the Printing Office of the Limited Editions Club. Paper boards decorated by LeRoy H. Appleton, uncut, case. New York Limited Editions Club 1934 1500 copies printed Signed by the artist. Lysistrata (411 B. C.) was the first of three comedies with the predominant participation of women; the other two were Thesmophoriazusae produced in 411 B.C. and Ecclesiasuzae in 393 B. C. Disgusted with the inability of men to bring about peace, women accomplish the aim through an effective feminine conspiracy. Of all Aristophanes 1 plays, Lysistrata is the only one which is still being staged. Pablo Picasso (b. 1881) provided drawings and sketches for the comedy which are among the best in his large output of book illustrations. It took over a hundred years to make the step from Flaxman's classical, but stifled, lines to the free and superbly expressive "neoclassical" designs cf the most inventive modern artist.

We have allowed you an additional 10% off our catalogue prices which brings the books to you at approximately 20% less than they can be obtained elsewhere0 With reference to the Colophon, these are the first nine years of this publication. The first five years we have seen quoted in other bookseller's catalogues up to per year. They were originally published at Wffm^ year.
