Chamber Concerts 2016 2017 Old Divinity School, St John s College, Cambridge
Kettle s Yard Music Thursday Concerts at the Old Divinity School, St John s College Welcome to Kettle s Yard s 2016-2017 chamber series, housed in the historic setting of the Old Divinity School in St John s College in the centre of Cambridge. This year s artist-in-residence is the award-winning violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen. Each of Tamsin s four concerts conjures up distinctive and moving moments in history, from the contemplative world of J.S. Bach s writing for solo violin to the emotionally-charged music of Messiaen and Shostakovich from the Second World War. Along the way, Tamsin gives us a snapshot of music across Europe in 1917, and folk-inspired Bohemia from before the First World War. And the folk influences continue: quartets by Bartók and Dvořák sit alongside Haydn s Zingarese or Gypsy minuet (Tesla Quartet), while Ligeti and Bartók rub shoulders with wonderful music from Africa and beyond (Ligeti Quartet). Autumn Term Orbis Trio 13 October Beethoven: Piano Trio, Op.70 No.2 Luboš Sluka: Suite in Memory of Jaroslav Ježek Dvořák: Piano Trio, Op.21 Fiery, precise playing.
