Literary Elements Plot and Theme The important events in a story make up the plot with a beginning, middle, and end. The big idea of the story is called the theme. Vocabulary Prefixes and Suffixes A prefix is a word part added to the beginning of a word. A suffix is added to the end of a word. Prefixes and suffixes can help you figure out the meaning of a word you don t know. The prefixes un- and dis- mean not or the opposite of. The suffix -ful means full of.
