Gulf Coast Steinway Society THE GCSS CONCERTO COMPETITION 2018 FOR PIANO AND INSTRUMETAL Prize for the Ten Winners: Performance with GCSS Orchestra The Gulf Coast Steinway Society is a non-profit organization formed by Steinway Artist Dr. Kadisha Onalbayeva and other individuals united in their devotion to strive to promote fine music through education and performance along the Gulf Coast region. The Gulf Coast Steinway Society Music Competition 2018 will take place at The University of Mobile, 5735 College Parkway, Mobile, Alabama, on Saturday, January 20 th. Its purpose is to give talented young students an opportunity to perform and to work with master teachers. THE GCSS CONCERTO COMPETITION Competition Guidelines ELIGIBILITY Applicants must be residents of the state of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi, or be studying with a teacher who is a resident of these states. Competition participants will be students from Middle School, High School and Colleges & Universities in the five-state region. The student s teachers are encouraged to attend. It will be open to the public.

Junior Level - Grades 6-8 (Middle School) OR students who have taken five (5) years of piano lessons by the age of 10 Senior Level - Grades 9-12 (age limit 18) (High School) College Level (Undergraduate Students only) AWARDS A total of ten (10) Prizes will be awarded from all levels. The Prize is the opportunity to give a performance with the GCSS Orchestra, an orchestra consisting of regional professional musicians in the fall of 2018. The GCSS will make an announcement on January 20 th, 2018 which will detail the day, date, and time of the concerto concert of the TEN Winners. The orchestra will be under the direction of Maestro Claire Fox Hillard of the Albany Symphony. This will be a unique opportunity for the winners to work under such an accomplished conductor. CONCERTO REPERTOIRE The following are the guidelines for entering the competition: Prepare a single movement from a concerto that is no longer than 10 minutes in duration. PIANO: J. S Bach - D Minor BWV 1052, F Minor BWV 1056, A Major BWV 1055 Haydn No. 11 in D major Mozart No. 20, 21, 22, 25, 26, 27 Beethoven - No. 1, 3, 4 Schumann - A minor Chopin - No. 1, 2 St. Saëns - No. 2 VIOLIN: J.S Bach - No. 1, 2 Mozart - No. 3, 4, 5 Beethoven - Romances Mendelssohn - Concerto St. Saëns - Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso
