what is TotalGuide xd for ipad? TotalGuide xd is a new search, discovery and TV listings app for the ipad that puts the world of television at your fingertips. Features include: A complete channel guide with TV listings offered by your cable provider. Remote access to your set-top boxes so you can use your ipad to tune to a program and schedule recordings. Access to program overviews, celebrity bios, cast and crew listings, similar recommendations and more. An advanced search tool. Exclusive program reviews from the Rovi editorial team, plus recommendations based on your favorite shows. Filters you can use to customize the channels and content displayed. Download and install the app TotalGuide xd is available now from the App Store. sign in Log in to TotalGuide xd Accessing TotalGuide xd s vast catalog of program information is quick and easy. The first time you tap the TotalGuide xd icon to launch the app, you will be asked to select your cable provider. Depending on your provider, you will either sign in using your cable account username and password, or create a TotalGuide xd User Account to access the app. Once you ve logged into your account you can: Option 1: Use your cable account to log in Save favorite channels, shows and celebrities. Connect to your settop boxes to tune channels and schedule recordings. Select your cable provider, if available.* Enter your username and password. Tap Log In. Option 2: Create an account Step 1: After selecting your cable provider, tap Create Account to choose your channel line-up. Step 2: Enter your zip or postal code then select your channel line-up. *If your cable provider is not listed, you will not be able to access the app. Step 3: Enter the requested information, including a valid email address, and tap Create Account to complete your registration and launch the app. TotalGuide xd for ipad - User Guide 5
a little more setup Link TotalGuide xd to your cable set-top boxes Linking the app to each of your cable settop boxes allows you to use your ipad to: Adding a set-top box: Schedule recordings and manage your DVR.* Change channels on your TVs.* Automatic registration: If you followed Option 1 on the previous page and logged in using your cable account, your set-top boxes are automatically linked to TotalGuide xd. Tap Settings to see a list of your devices. Tap to edit and rename if desired. Set-top box registration: If you followed Option 2 on the previous page and set up a User Account, you will need to manually link your set-top box to TotalGuide xd. Set-top box devices can be added from the Settings screen. You can also edit the name. Tap Settings, then tap Add a New Device and enter your zip code or postal code to find your channel line-up. Enter the Device Code and name your device to link your DVR set-top box to the app. Where do I find the Device Code? The Device Code, also called a Temporary Code, can be found by selecting Remote Access Setup from the Setup menu on i-guide, or selecting Remote Access from Settings on Passport Guide. *If available. getting started Explore the Home screen The Home screen is your Video Dashboard, which is divided into five areas to help you find and discover your favorite TV shows, movies and celebrities quickly and easily. Set-Top Box Device List: Shows the device currently paired with the app. Select to choose another device or modify. Favorite Networks: Displays programs currently airing on your favorite networks, with options to view what s on Now, Next or in Prime Time. Tap to add or delete a favorite channel. My Favorites: Displays Movies, TV or Celebrities that you ve made a favorite by tapping on an Overview screen. Hot Lists: Rovi s picks based on the category you have selected: Music, Sports, Family, Reality or Flick Picks. Tap to select a category. For You: Popular on TV and Movies. My DVR: Programs scheduled to record on your DVR. See All: Tap to expand/collapse your view. Tap and go Home: Displays the Home screen, shown above. TV Shows: Select to see what s on now or in prime time. Movies: Select to see what movies are on now or in prime time. Listings Grid: Your cable provider s complete channel line-up. Settings: Manage your user account, add set-top box devices, review your favorites and more. Search: An advanced search tool to help you quickly find shows and celebrities. the home screen: a closer look On-screen options to personalize your view. It s easy to customize your Video Dashboard based on your preferences. Customize: Tap to customize your Favorite Networks, My Favorites, and Hot List. Options: Tap one of the options to change the display in Favorite Networks or My Favorites categories. Navigation: In the expanded area, swipe left to review additional choices, if available. When you find a program that interests you, tap the show graphic for more information. Or, tap Tune to tune your TV or Record to set your DVR to record the program.* *All features may not be supported. TotalGuide xd for ipad icons Favorites - Add/Remove Tap to add this channel, show, or celebrity to your Favorites list. Blue indicates the item is a favorite. Tools Tap to edit your Favorite Networks or to change your Hot List on the Home screen. Delete Tap to delete. Listings Grid Calendar Tap to select the day and time to view. Listings Grid Genre Filter Tap to select the genres you would like highlighted (Kids, Lifestyle, Movies, Music, News or Sports). program overview In-depth information, cast, recommendations and viewing options Tap a program graphic or title to access the Program Overview. Quick Info: Show graphic, title, ratings and runtime. Action Icons: Tap to make a favorite, tune your TV or schedule a recording.* Air Time: Channel, date and time of current or next airing. Overview: Includes synopsis and Rovi editorial reviews, when available. Cast: View list of actors and directors. Tap to view biography and credits. Similar: Find shows in the same genre or with similar themes. Tap to view Program Overview. Airings: View upcoming times and days to watch. *All features may not be supported. the listings grid Customize to make finding programs a snap Tap the Listings Grid icon to display your channel line-up and what s on now. Simply swipe up/down and right/left to explore the grid. Tap a show for Program Overview. Day and Time Options: Tap the Calendar to desired date and time. The grid adjusts automatically. Tap View On Now to reset the grid to current time. Customize: Use these filters and options to change the grid s listings: Tap to display only favorite channels. Tap to display only HD channels. Tap Options to display the Listings Grid alphabetically or numerically. Tap to select a genre to highlight. Add a Favorite: Tap a channel to make it a Favorite. (The heart icon will turn blue.) Tap again to remove from Favorites. Record Icon: A red dot indicates the show is scheduled to record on your DVR. Ads: Select ad for more information. favorites See your favorite selections all in one place TotalGuide xd lets you personalize your experience by selecting channels, shows and celebrities as favorites. Favorites can be added throughout the app, whether you re reviewing your Hot List on the Home screen, browsing the Listings Grid or viewing the cast of a movie. Simply tap the Favorites icon whenever it appears. From Program Overview: From Listings Grid: Modify your Favorites from the Home screen by tapping. You can also modify Favorites from Settings. tv shows Browse shows on now or coming up in prime time Tap the TV Shows icon to display upcoming programs. Filter the list by genre or tap a show graphic for Program Overview. Schedule filters: See what s on Now or tonight in Prime Time. Genre: Tap to view list and tap to select one or more genre, then select Apply Filters to filter your current view. Filtering by genre Tap the Genre button to open the list. Select as many genres as you want. Tap Apply Filters when you are done. Shows matching your genre list are displayed. movies Discover new movies and find classic favorites Tap the Movies icon to view a list of upcoming movies. Filter the list by genre or tap a movie graphic for Program Overview. Schedule filters: See what s on Now or tonight in Prime Time. Genre: Tap to view list and tap to select one or more genre, then select Apply Filters to filter your current view. Filtering by genre Tap the Genre button to open the list. Select as many genres as you want. Tap Apply Filters when you are done. Movies matching your genre list are displayed. search Find it fast by tapping the magnifying glass Finding programs or celebrities has never been easier or more enjoyable. TotalGuide xd s powerful search feature taps into Rovi s vast entertainment catalog of TV, movies and celebrities.* Search also helps you discover new entertainment choices. Just tap the Search icon to open the search window. Search results include TV shows, movies or celebrities. As you type, TotalGuide xd offers suggestions based on popularity to guide your search, so it s easy to find what you re looking for. Filter Search results by tapping the icon: Display what s Available to watch Show only HD content Narrow results by Movies, TV or Celebrities Select TV or Movie Genres Step 1: Tap the magnifying glass icon. Step 2: Enter your search term. As you type, suggestions are displayed. *All programs may not be available for viewing. Step 3: Tap to select one or more filter options. six-degrees discovery Have fun exploring your entertainment options TotalGuide xd provides intuitive discovery of relevant entertainment options and enables you to veer off in several directions, so you can explore and discover new shows or read about your favorite celebrities. Explore the Cast: From Program Overview tap Cast to view cast list and photos. Tap one to view Celebrity Overview including Credits and Airings. Tap Credits to explore more programs. Find Similar shows: From the Program Overview, tap the Similar tab to see a list of similar recommendations. Tap on a program to access Program Overview for that show. Tap on Cast, and select an actor to view their overview. Step 1: Tap a show graphic or title for Program Overview. Tap Cast to view cast photos tap one for bio and credits. Select to make a program or celebrity a Favorite. Tip: When exploring Six Degrees, swipe right to return to previously viewed overviews. Step 2: Tap Similar to view recommendations. how-to: record a show Use TotalGuide xd to program your DVR A great show is on tonight but you have to work late. No problem. You can use TotalGuide xd to record it on your home digital video recorder (DVR). Use the Home screen, Search, Listings Grid or any other navigation tool to find an upcoming show. Tap the show, then tap Record to DVR and choose from the available recording options, and tap Record. The show will be added to your DVR recording schedule and appear in the My DVR section of the Home screen. To cancel a recording: On the Home screen, expand the My DVR area. Click Modify under the show you no longer wish to record. Tap Cancel this Scheduled Recording. Confirm your decision by tapping Yes. Note: This feature may not be supported by all cable providers. Find the show you want to record. Tap Record or tap the show for Program Overview. Tap Record to DVR. *Actual recording options may vary. how-to: tune to a channel TotalGuide xd turns your ipad into a remote control User Guide You ve found a show or channel to watch. You can tune to the channel using TotalGuide xd by tapping Tune button, if currently airing. Note: This feature may not be supported by all cable providers. From Home: Tap Tune to tune to the program. From Program Overview: Tap Tune to tune to the program. Airings Tab on an Overview: Tap Tune to tune to the program. TotalGuide xd for ipad - User Guide 17
settings User Guide Quickly manage your TotalGuide xd settings with a few taps My Profile: Tap a category to view or modify your designated Favorites. Your Account: Select to create or modify your profile, if applicable. My Devices: Tap Edit to modify current device. Select Add a new device to connect another settop box to the app. Log Out: Tap to log out of TotalGuide xd. You will be prompted to enter your username and password the next time you launch the app. Deleting Favorites using the Settings screen Tap Channels, Programs or Celebrities. Tap an item on the list to delete from that favorites list. Tip: Add a new device. If you created a User Account, secure a Device Code from each set-top box and enter it when prompted. If you ve logged into TotalGuide xd using your cable account credentials, all your set-top boxes are automatically connected to the app. You can rename your devices anytime. 18 TotalGuide xd for ipad - User Guide
