Goodbye Summer Hello Fall On The Cover: A young customer stops by the Farmers Market at Knudson Park this summer to buy a couple heads of cabbage. Stop by every Wednesday from Noon to 5:30 p.m. and see what goodies are being sold locally. Summer is now in the rear view mirror! Seasonal change always happens in Illinois whether we are ready or not, and fall is one of the best season changes this area has to offer. With the kids back in school, the farmers harvesting the fields, the trees turning magnificient colors, the new television TV series beginning, and football season starting, all of these changes add to the excitement that fall brings. First of all, we would like to extend a thank you to all of our current digimax TV subscribers. Many of you were experiencing problems viewing the local Chicago stations using our service. The majority of the problems were due to some faulty engineering on our part with the antennas that we use to bring the signal into our system from the transmitters located in Chicago. This design we used with these antennas just could not pull in a strong enough signal for us to broadcast a great clear picture that we all expect to receive. MTCO has recently re-engineered the antenna configuration and we installed new antennas and amplifiers to better handle these long distance signals coming from the Chicago stations. We have seen great improvements since this work was completed on August 5th. We still have a few adjustments to make over the next few weeks, but we wanted to make sure that we kept everybody updated to the progress and express a thanks for your patience as we worked very hard to fix the issue. In other news, MTCO digimax is introducing the NFL RedZone to its channel lineup this September. Watch every touchdown from every NFL game, every Sunday afternoon, all on one digimax channel. This channel keeps you up-to-date in real time, switching from game to game with live look-ins when a team goes inside the 20-yard line, highlights, and a chance to see key plays. Subscribe for a one-time price of $45 for the entire season of NFL RedZone. Also, with fall approaching and the days becoming shorter, we seem to watch TV a lot more and digimax TV is ready for all of the action. The networks have put together a great line up for the fall season including some of the old favorites like Dallas and Charlie s Angels that are being revived. There are new fresh TV series that seem very entertaining too. If you re not watching these shows in a 100% digital picture, or in High Definition (HD), then give us a call. Right now is a good time to connect to MTCO s digimax IPTV and enjoy the RedZone along with your favorite television shows! Entertainment & Technology Two culinary reservations can be made starting this fall on The Hallmark Channel Emeril s Table Premieres Sept. 26 Hallmark Channel s new daytime entry, Emeril s Table, featuring Chef Emeril Lagasse, will debut Monday, September 26th at 10am CST. This daily program showcases Lagasse in his element, sharing his love for food with five lucky guests seated at his chef s table. Chef Emeril gives cooking lessons to a wide range of visitors: from newlyweds, to fire fighters and vegetarians. He will be answering culinary questions and food dilemmas, and also share fresh, fun ideas, recipes, tips, and techniques. Season Two Premiere of Martha Bakes A Hallmark original series, Martha Bakes, premieres on Monday, September 26th at 10:30am CST. This half-hour series is the first to feature Martha teaching one specific culinary discipline. What distinguishes the series from other baking-related shows is that each installment, covering themes such as cookies or pizza, begins with a recipe s basic foundation and then demonstrates how the addition of certain ingredients or a new technique can create not just one, but multiple recipes (The Hallmark Channel). National Geographic Channel to Air 9/11 Specials With the anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks approaching, National Geographic Channel has two specials set to air Monday, September 6, 2011. Giuliani s 9/11 will air at 8:00pm and features NYC Mayor Rudolph Giuliani as he looks back on the events that took place on September 11th. Witness: DC will air immediately following at 9:00pm. This special looks back on the attack on Washington DC on 9/11. Both specials include video coverage of the day s horrific events. Tips to Improve your Wireless Signal at Home If you are encountering a wireless signal in your home that has slowed down or you are experiencing signal drops, here are a few tips to consider. There may be a new wireless router in the neighborhood that is causing interference. If that s the case just change the channel the router is on and your problem may go away. Most routers come with three channels: 1, 6 and 11. How to change the channel varies from one router to another so check your router s manual for instructions. Consider the position of your router. It should be placed as centrally to the location of your networked gear as possible. If you re using 802.11b, r, or n equipment on the 2.4GHz band, try to keep the router away from potential sources of interference, such as microwaves and some cordless phones. Bluetooth also runs on the 2.4GHz band. Think to yourself if furniture has been moved recently. A bookshelf full of CD s can cause interference. Setting up a security key on your wireless router is important to protect privacy but also to keep bandwidth thieves away. Finally, if you are stretching the limits of your wireless signal in your home, you may want to consider replacing your router s built-in antenna with a third-party one which will send out a more powerful signal. Such products are available in two flavors: Omnidirectional antennas broadcast the signal in all directions, while directional antennas let you focus on a problem area. (Note that not all router antennas can be replaced so check to make sure it is an option for your router.) If your router does not support replacement antennas, investing in a repeater might help. This is basically a device that you position on the outskirts of your existing router coverage; it receives, amplifies, and rebroadcasts the signal to extend the range. James Butler Hickok (May 27, 1837 August 2, 1876), better known as Wild Bill Hickok, was a figure in the American Old West. In 1855, at age 18, Wild Bill Hickok moved to the Kansas Territory following a fight with Charles Hudson, which resulted in both falling into the I&M Canal in Marseilles. Mistakenly thinking he had killed Hudson, Hickok fled and began his journey to becoming a notorious wild west figure. This bridge that spans the canal on Main Street was built in 1939, and it has aproximately 5,000 cars a day passing over it. HISTORIC CANAL
