Slight wear, near fine in a rubbed, very good dustwrapper with two short tears and a tiny nick. Although not marked in any way, fellow poet Howard Nemerov's copy. Laid into the book is a Typed Postcard Signed ("Dick") from Wilbur to Nemerov dated in 1969 thanking him for his comments on this book, and that "such testimony easily outweighs the annoyance of not being noticed by the Times." He goes on to mention "the five riddles" and the aesthetic derived from them, mentions that Ryder is all right (presumably referring to the book by Djuna Barnes), but "I prefer a clearly illuminated strangeness...," and delights in his summer: "How fine to be summering near Conrad, Mary and the sea, and drinking Martinis colder than the Bay of Fundy." Also laid into the book is a bank document, on the verso of which Nemerov has scribbled nine lines of poetry, apparently a draft of a poem, whether published, or connected to Wilbur's writing, we have not determined. #83361... $500 WILBUR, Richard.
