SECTION I. THE SSESSMENT OF COMMUNICTIVE COMPETENCE ( points) Read the text and do the tasks below the text. Music Effects We hear music everywhere, every day. Getting into a lift, going around a supermarket or simply relaxing at home, music is our constant companion. Music has a significant effect on the way we think and feel, so it is worth paying attention to what we are listening to. Music can have a powerful effect on our moods. It can both reduce and increase stress. Listening to calm gentle music in bed can help us fall sleep. Some airlines play comforting music on board at take-off and landing to calm nervous travellers. lso, if you are kept waiting on the phone, you will probably hear gentle classical music and not loud music, which could make you feel stressed and angry. thletes often listen to fast loud music to help them prepare for games. In addition, music can always bring memories wherever you are. Have you ever heard a song that reminded you of a specific moment in time? Before you know it, you are reliving the past remembering the people you were with, the weather, the sights and sounds and even what you were wearing. This special effect of music can be especially important for the people who play the music. Musicians, who do not have enough confidence, can suddenly feel more positive when they go on stage. They say that music gives them a different personality. What is more, scientists have conducted research into the effect of music on students studying for exams. They found that listening to calm music can actually help students to improve their performance in exams. Classical music, preferably something by Mozart, seems to have the most beneficial effect. For most of us though, music is one of life's great pleasures. nd it is a pleasure that lasts. Researchers have found that we do not often grow out of the music that we love as teenagers, because our musical tastes are such a huge part of our identity, personality and attitude to life. So, do not delete those songs you downloaded when you were fifteen you will probably still love them when you are fifty.
