Dear Digital Equipment Provider, WALT DISNEY STUDIOS MOTION PICTURES DIGITAL CINEMA APPROVED EQUIPMENT LIST APPROVAL PROCEDURE The Walt Disney Company has always been known for its quality and attention to detail. Theatrically, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures ( WDSMP ) maintains those same high standards in the quality of the presentation of its movies. A significant part of that achievement is the equipment that supports this endeavor. In the rapidly changing world of digital cinema, WDSMP is maintaining an Approved Equipment List. Ultimately, the Approved Equipment List will consist of all digital equipment that is DCI compliant. However, today, those standards are still in transition. In the interim WDSMP has created its own test program with the aid of CineCert. While this test is not as detailed as the DCI testing it is just as critical during the transition period. All of the procedures performed in the interim test program are similar to procedures which appear in the full DCI Compliance Test Plan (CTP). Any equipment that successfully completes the test will be included on the Approved Equipment List and in addition, will become part of the Disney booking system, Showbiz. Equipment which is not included on the Approved Equipment List will not be booked nor will it receive VPF s through deployment deals. Testing will be required for all digital cinema servers, projectors and 3D systems including hardware, firmware, software and 3D glasses. The Approved Equipment List is worldwide. Due to frequent changes in digital cinema it is impossible for WDSMP to monitor all changes. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the vendors to contact CineCert when testing is required. This testing will be at the expense of the vendor. Since CineCert will provide a written summary of the test results, vendors may share the results with any other studio that also maintains the equivalent of the WDSMP s Approved Equipment List. In addition to obtaining the CineCert evaluation, it is the responsibility of the vendor to also contact WDSMP s to arrange for their equipment to reside on the Studio s lot in Burbank. In the case of projectors, if mutually agreeable, a projector may be located at an easy access location off the Studio lot. Servers must be provided to the Studio along with software changes since this equipment is used to Quality Control every motion picture title including dubbed, subtitled, hearing impaired, sing-along etc. versions. Thank you for supporting this process. We have listed the testing criteria for servers in Schedule 1. These will be referred to as the Disney Inter-Op Tests. We have also included our current Approved Equipment List. Disney Digital Cinema Approved Equipment Page 1 of 11 07/02/2009

WALT DISNEY STUDIOS MOTION PICTURES DIGITAL CINEMA APPROVED EQUIPMENT LIST AS OF JULY 2, 2009 The Walt Disney Studios ( Disney ) is committed to the goal of presenting its digital content in theatres solely on DCI-compliant digital cinema equipment. The latest step toward the availability of fully DCI-Compliant equipment was DCI s publication of its DCI Compliance Test Plan on October 17, 2007. This Test Plan provides for licensed facilities to perform tests detailed by the Compliance Plan and provides guidance to manufacturers, integrators and exhibitors on the details required for testing and compliance. No projector or server can be DCI-compliant until it passes the Compliance Test, and no such DCI-compliant equipment is yet commercially available. The solution: Until exhibitors can acquire DCI-compliant digital cinema equipment, Disney is encouraging continued deployment of digital cinema systems by licensing digital content for presentation, but only on digital cinema systems that meet or exceed Disney s JPEG Inter-Op requirements and, for 3D content, only on systems that also meet Disney s Stereoscopic (3D) requirements. Both of these requirements are generally consistent with the DCI Specification. Please see our Approved Digital Equipment Lists A and B below. Please note that Disney is not making any representation or warranty as to the quality of the equipment or its general fitness for any purpose other than the exhibition of Disney content in this interim period. Further, if content security or material presentation problems arise in approved equipment, Disney may suspend delivery of content to such systems until the equipment supplier resolves such problems. Disney may from time to time remove equipment from the list. Message to Exhibitors: When digital cinema equipment that passes the DCI Compliance Test Plan becomes commercially available, Disney within a reasonable time will refrain from any further license of digital content for exhibition on non-compliant systems, including systems that meet only Disney s interim JPEG Inter-Op and Stereoscopic requirements. Disney does not reimburse theatres for their costs of acquisition of digital cinema equipment. Disney supports the financing of digital cinema rollouts through deployment entities with which Disney has signed agreements, all of which use only Disney approved equipment. For the names of these entities, please contact Paul Holliman. (Contact information below.) Finally, your installation of Disney-approved equipment does not guarantee that Disney will license a movie to your theatre. We will continue to negotiate each exhibition license on an engagement-by-engagement basis. Message to Deployment Entities, Integrators and Manufacturers: Disney will pay virtual print fees (VPFs) only to a deployment entity with which it has a signed deployment agreement. Prior to the availability of fully DCI-compliant equipment, Disney will pay VPFs only for systems which meet both Disney s JPEG Inter-Op and Stereoscopic (3D) interim requirements. You may request the documents describing these requirements from Gary Weaver (Gary.Weaver@Disney.com) or Kevin Rosenberger (Kevin.Rosenberger@Disney.com) or they are published on the http://digitalcinema.disney.com website Please contact Gary Weaver or Kevin Rosenberger for information on testing of your equipment for possible inclusion on our approved list. The cost for the testing will be the responsibility of the Deployment Entity, Integrator or Manufacturer. When digital cinema equipment that passes the DCI Compliance Test Plan becomes commercially available, Disney will pay VPFs only for fully DCI-compliant equipment. Disney requires each deployment entity with which it contracts to upgrade its deployed equipment to full DCI-Compliance within one year after such equipment becomes available.
