Before Using the Reote Control With this Reote Control, you can operate your "IV and ost odels of reote-controlled VCR's and Cable "IV converters even if they are different brands. However, this Reote Control ust be prograed to control other brands of VCR's and/or converters. If you will be using your "IV set with a TOSHIBA VCR, your Reote Control has already been preprograrned for you. Before attepting to operate your Reote Control, install the batteries according to the section "Installing and replacing batteries" shown below. For ore detailed instructions, see the section "Prograing the Reote Control". Notes: After installing new batteries, the Reote Control will set itself to the codes for TOSHIBA's "IV and VCR. If you are using the Reote Control to operate equipent that uses different codes, it will have to be reprograed for those codes. This Reote Control ay have functions not available on the original reote control. These functions ay or ay not operate your VCR or Cable "IV converter. Refer to the owner's anuals supplied with the equipent to see which functions are available. The reote control supplied with your VCR or Cable "IV converter ay have keys not duplicated on this Reote Control. If these functions are desired, the original reote control will have to be used. Place the Reote Control with the face down. Press down on the ridged area of the battery cover and slide it off. Press and slide to reove. CAUTIONS: Do not throw your batteries into a fire. Dispose of your batteries in a designated disposal area. Do not cobine used old batteries with new ones. Do not ix battery types. Tips for best operation 2 Place two "AA" size batteries, atching the + and - signs on each battery to the + and - signs of the battery copartent. For optiu perforance, ai the Reote Control directly at the "IV fro a distance no ore than 16 ft (5) and be sure there is no obstruction between the Reote Control and the TV. If your Reote Control does not always control the "IV as you wish, you probably need to replace the batteries. Reove dead batteries iediately to prevent battery acid fro leaking into the battery copartent. If you do not intend to use the Reote Control for a long period, reove the batteries. 3 Replace the battery cover until the lock snaps.

Using the Reote with VCR or Cable TV Converter To control a TOSHIBA VCR, first set the "rv/cablencr switch to VCR. The buttons shown below will then control the VCR. The rest of the buttons operate the TV as usual. If you have another brand of VCR, you can probably progra the Reote Control to control it. To control a cable TV converter, this Reote Control ust be prograed to recognize the brand of your converter. _'Set the TV/CABLENCR switch to CABLE whenever you want to control the cable TV converter. Prograing the Reote Control This Reote Control is preprograed to operate TOSHIBA VCRs. To use VCRs other than TOSHIBA odels (or Cable converter), perfor the following procedures before operating. STOP REW Y FF e A LOCAI_ SWAP SOURCE REC p T4CR -4 0 U) Nuber buttons 1 Refer to the "VCR code table" (or "Cable TV converter code table") on pages 9 and 10 to find the code nuber that corresponds to the brand nae of your VCR (or your converter). 2 3 4 If ore than one nuber is listed, try each one separately until you find the one that works. Set the TV/CABLEIVCR switch to "VCR" (or "CABLE"). Hold down RECALLwhile pressing the Nuber buttons for the three digit code nuber for your brand of VCR (or converter). The transit indicator lights up for 1 second when the prograing is copleted. Notes: When an operation error has occurred, the indicator blinks. Press RECALLagain to reset. Point the Reote Control at the VCR (or at the converter) and press POWERto test the code nuber. - If the right nuber was entered, the VCR (or the converter) should turn on. - If the VCR (or the converter) does not respond to the Reote Control, repeat steps 1 to 4 with another code nuber. You have to reprogra the Reote Control when you change its batteries. Soe newer VCR's are capable of working on either of two reote codes. These VCR's have a switch labeled "VCR1/VCR2". If your VCR has this kind of switch, and does not respond to any of the code nubers for your VCR brand nae, set the switch to another position (_VCRI" or "VCR2") and reprogra the Reote Control. The selected function will be displayed in agenta, then press -/+ to adjust the setting. AUD (Audio) button (on Reote) Press AUD repeatedly until one of the Audio enu functions you want to adjust is selected. The selected function will be displayed in agenta, then press -I+ to adjust the setting. SET UP button (on Reote) Press SET UP repeatedly until one of the Set up enu functions you want to adjust is selected. The selected function will be displayed in agenta, then press -I+ to adjust the setting. EXIT button (on Reote) The above four enu displays will autoatically disappear fro the screen if no control has been operated for about 15 seconds, and all other enu displays also disappear after about 6 seconds. If you want to clear the screen of all on-screen displays instantly, press EXIT.

Prograing Channel Meory The channel eory is the list of TV channel nubers yourtv will stop on when you press the CHANNEL or button. First, use the W/CABLE and CH PROGRAM functions to preset all active channels in your area autoatically. If necessary, arrange the preset channels with the ADD/ERASE functions so that you can tune into only desired channels.
