Syllabus Seminars Support for teachers and an introduction to teaching the new syllabuses To mark the launch of our new flute and clarinet syllabuses (available from July 2007), we are running a series of seminars to introduce teachers to the new exam lists and supporting publications. Our experienced presenters will guide you through the new syllabus including: An exploration and demonstration of the new exam material at each grade Hints and tips on exam preparation Advice on repertoire, interpretation and approaches to technique Ideas for introducing new pieces A bonus session at lunchtime introducing the ABRSM jazz syllabus for flute and clarinet A free copy of Selected Pieces for Flute or Selected Pieces for Clarinet at grade 1 will be given to each seminar attendee. She now has a successful freelance career playing with the major orchestras, opera and ballet companies as well as in London s West End. She is an active teacher at all levels and is currently director of the Jonathan Snowden International Flute School. She has recently published her first book of arrangements for flute and piano and is a diploma examiner for the Associated Board and a mentor on the highly acclaimed CT ABRSM course. Jennifer Sturgeon Jennifer studied the flute with Colin Fleming in Belfast, Northern Ireland. She was a finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition and then represented Ireland in the European Young Musician of the Year competition. She attended Clare College, Cambridge and was awarded an Instrumental Award Scholarship. Clare is a busy freelance flautist based in London and currently Principal Flute for the London Soloists Chamber Orchestra as well as an active examiner undertaking many international tours for the Associated Board. www.abrsm.org/autumnseminars

He studied at the Royal Academy of Music, where he won the August Manns Prize for outstanding performance in clarinet playing. He went on to study music education with Professor Keith Swanwick at the University of London. He has over two hundred publications to his name, including two clarinet tutors, a variety of works for various instruments, the highly acclaimed Improve Your Sight Reading! series which has sold nearly half a million copies worldwide, and the more recent Improve Your Scales! series. He is an examiner for the Associated Board and adjudicates at music festivals and national competitions. He has presented many workshops both internationally and in the UK. Chris Swann Chris Swann studied at the Royal Academy of Music and spent twelve years as a clarinettist and saxophonist in the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also enjoyed a varied freelance career, playing Principal Clarinet with the BBC Symphony, BBC Philharmonic, Ulster, Scottish Chamber, National Symphony and East of England Orchestras. He founded the ensemble Zephyr, which has enjoyed considerable success throughout the country. Chris enjoys a busy teaching career and is a member of teaching staff for both clarinet and saxophone at the RNCM. He is also an examiner for the Associated Board and an experienced presenter.
