About Chalkwell Hall Chalkwell Hall is a four storey Grade II listed, Georgian building set within the grounds of the well loved and used, Chalkwell Park in Southend on Sea. Built in 1830 it has a fantastic position at the brow of a hill, commanding magnificent views of the Park and across the Thames Estuary to Kent. The house, which until 2007 had been largely unused has now been renovated by Metal in partnership with Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, Arts Council England, East (ACEE) and East of England Development Agency (EEDA). Metal commissioned award winning architect, Bill Dunster of ZEDfactory and visual artists, Ackroyd & Harvey to work together to turn the building into a low carbon space for art, events and conversation. Bill Dunster's practice is renowned for working with renewable technologies. Energy saving devices at Chalkwell Hall inlcude electricity generated by two small wind turbines and photovoltaic tiles on the roof, solar thermal collectors, and a wood-burning stove that allows guests to cook and eat together or be catered for. Ackroyd & Harvey worked to create flexible living / working spaces, a kitchen garden that provides home-grown vegetables, and a stunning permanent work of art on the south facade of the house made from recycled slate, some from the roof of Chalkwell Hall itself. Manchester based artist s collective, UHC were commissioned to create a centrepiece table that drew together the themes of the garden, the nature of the partnership, and the Metal s on-going programme of cooking and eating together. The stunning, hand made, oak dining table with hand painted motif can create the perfect atmosphere for meetings and functions. The resulting Hall is, we believe, an outstanding example of collaborative, cross disciplinary design that provides a really inspiring space for meetings, discussions and events of all sorts.

Room Hire Term & Conditions - All prices are exclusive of VAT which will be charged on all bookings. - A standard FULL DAY booking is from 9am to 5.30pm. - A standard HALF DAY booking is from 9am to 1pm or from 1.30pm to 5.30pm. - Rooms must be vacated by the end time given on the completed booking form (unless otherwise agreed in writing). - Room use in excess of pre-booked times will be invoiced at the appropriate hourly rate. When you have finished using the room please notify a member of staff. - There is an extra charge for an IT technician s time if required. Charges for technical help and use of screening facilities are available on request. - For Charities and Community groups please contact us as special rates may be applied. Booking & Fees - Requests made for booking 1-4 weeks in advance will be held provisionally for a maximum of 3 working days. They must then be confirmed or cancelled. To confirm a booking a 25% deposit on the booking fee must be paid. - Bookings made within one week of the event will be invoiced by Metal in full at the time of booking and must be paid in full prior to the event. - Once a booking is confirmed our cancellation fees apply, please see below. Cancellation Fees - Cancellation up to 2 weeks before will not incur a fee. - Cancellation 1 week before will incur a 10% administration fee - Thereafter a 20% fee will be applied.
