EndNote - glossary EndNote Library Database contains all bibliographic citations retreived from online resources or created manually Reference Each record in the database is a reference. It is composed of many fields to describe each document type (author, year, title of journal, reference type, etc.) Reference Type 6 Refers to document type (ex. journal article, book, thesis, patent, report, web page, etc.). Each reference type has specific fields. More than 40 reference types
7 EndNote - glossary Fields Each bibliographic reference or record is composed of fields. Some fields are commun (author, title, etc.) and some are different and depend on the reference type (ex. for thesis, we ll have field for : university, academic department, etc.). More than 40 fields to describe each reference type.

Create a new reference manually 13 To add a file attachment (html, pdf, doc, etc.) Click on right hand mouse> File Attachments > Attach File or Select the reference> References > File attachments. To add a figure : Select the reference > Quick Edit> References > Attach figure or double-click on the reference > select When you close the reference window, the system will ask you to save the changes you made.

Import references indirectly to EndNote Library Import filter indicates to EndNote how to use the data effectively as specified by the database. Each peace of bibliographic information must be consistently tagged so it can be directed to the correct EndNote field. p.64 Thomson Reuters. (2010). Online search references 20 Online search is useful to search directly in databases (most of them are Thomson Reuters products) and library catalogs and to retrieve references to EndNote library. To select online resources : Tools> Online Search To launch searches : Tools > Online Search >New Search or from the left menu > Online Search. It is strongly recommanded to search directly into databases because few of them are free online and accessible (ex. PubMed). Online Search is useful particularly to search library catalogs.
