irig Multi Band Digital Receiver System Technical Description Page 1
FEATURES irig Multi Band Digital Receiver System The irig range of telemetry products are the result of a multi year research and development program to utilize the latest technologies and apply them to products for the flight test industry. The concepts behind the products are original resulting in products designed from the ground up to offer substantial technical advantages over traditional products. The VuTrack irig Digital Receiver unit is a compact high performance receiving system. It includes a dynamic Post-Detection Diversity Combiner, with programmed IF and Video Filters. Multiple RF channels can be included in a single unit, up to 10 per chassis. Multi-Band Receiver A single receiver that covers L, Upper L, S and NATO bands with exceptional performance with all demodulation types, FM (ARTM TIER0), AM, and optionally SOQPSK (ARTM TIERI) or Multi- H CPM (ARTM TIERII) Page 2
Complete Receiver - RF to Time Tagged Decommutated Data An integrated solution which accepts RF signals and delivers both base band clock and bit synced data with support for derandomization from 9 to 23 bits and time tagged decommutated data. Trellis Demodulation in all ARTM Modes ARTM Tier 0 and optionally Tier I and Tier II with trellis detection in all modes. Minimum 3.5 db Improvement in PCM/FM Performance Improved BER performance through the use of a digital multi-symbol demodulator offering 3.5 db better performance over the best single-symbol demodulators. Resulting in reception to within 0.8 db of the theoretical limit. Enhanced Synchronization Synchronizes faster than a traditional bit sync, maintains sync at lower signal-to-noise ratios and offers much more accurate bit lock indication. Multiple Preset Memory Storage The receiver offers eight memory setup registers which can be preprogrammed with receiver setups and selected in flight via a three line open collector interface, compatible with a simple rotary switch. Integrated Time IRIG A, B and E time decoder, GPS time decoder with 1PPS and IRIG A, B and E time generator. Telemetry Encoder The receiver has an integrated NRZ-L/M/S, BIO-L/M/S, RNRZ 9/11/13/15/17/19/21/23 telemetry encoder that offers speeds up to 15 Mbits/Second. Ethernet Interface The receiver has an Ethernet programming, monitoring, soft decommutation data recovery and encoder data interface with advanced Windows based control and monitoring software. Status Indicator Lines The receiver offers an open collector status line that can be used to illuminate a cockpit indicator to indicate good data reception. Speech Audio Status The receiver contains a voice audio system that can be set to speak the receiver settings on changing a memory preset, to provide speech based reception status on open collector switch closure or generate user programmable tones based on reception status. TUNER The tuner covers L, Upper L, S and NATO bands, that is the frequencies bands 1435.5-1540.5 MHz, 1700-1850 MHz and 2185-2480 MHz converting the recovered signals to 70 MHz. The center frequency can be selected with a resolution of 50 khz by remote control. For other frequency ranges contact JDA. AM detection is provided after the 2nd IF filters, providing excellent adjacent channel rejection. The AM frequency response is determined by selection of the AGC time constant and the IF bandwidth. Individual AM outputs are provided for each tuner as an option to the standard configuration. Envelope AGC is derived from a peak AM detector with user selectable time constant settings. A user programmable damper control is provided for each RF Section, which is controlled through the remote digital interface or by the front panel. AGC and AM monitor outputs are provided in both analog and digital form. A manual zero adjustment is programmable through the remote digital interface. Additional scalable signal strength record outputs are provided. The combining takes place at the received signal level or the combiner can be bypassed to monitor either RF input channel. When operating under normal conditions, the AGC levels from the tuner are a true measure of the quality of the received data, and combiner weighting is a direct function of these levels. The digital signal strength indicator is calibrated to within 1db and can be used as a true signal strength indicator. Both the Pre and Post Detection Combiners can provide signal improvement with equal S/N ratio inputs. Page 6
