Pat 4: he Mix Golden Rule: Spead out you fequencies and sepaate you voices. 1. Battey uning Well tuned dums will help you achieve geat balance in you ensemble. Snaes Aim fo a tue sopano battey voice, medium high tuning, expeiment with tape and patches fo aticulation. Always play with good sticks! enos Avoid tuning too high and poducing a choked off teno voice. Resonance is key. Expeiment with diffeent implements fo vaiety and balance. Bass Dums Use foam on heads o inside of dum on the shell to educe ovetones and gain aticulation. Don t be afaid to tune up! 2. Pecussion Ochestation A well witten pecussion book can save lots of headaches down the oad. Avoid ovewiting! Less can be moe in many cases. Design pecussion only windows in you show to featue them and give the wind playes some down time! Use mallet changes to help ceate new sound textues and to help with balancing. (section to section, battey to pit, pecussion to winds etc.) 3. Acoustic vs. Electonic Balance 80/20 Rule Acoustic keyboad playes poduce 80% of thei oveall volume though the use of good technique and coect mallet selection. he sound system povides the exta 20% of the volume it takes to balance to the full ensemble and be head in the lage aenas and noisy football stadiums. he synthesize should not eplace you wind section. Balance to you winds. 4. Oveall Ensemble Balance ip: always know what ole each voice plays in each musical phase. Beak up balancing you ensemble into smalle stages. o Balance section to section o Balance battey and font ensemble o ake a step back and balance to the winds Pat 5: Developing the Musical Maching Pecussionist 1. Pivate Lessons Pivate instuction is highly ecommended and encouaged to all pecussionists duing both school semestes and summe. 2. MEA All State Stong emphasis is placed on the MEA All State audition pocess Pecussionists attend a 1h All State masteclass, 1 pe week Pecussionists have bi monthly etude pass offs and a mock audition.

3. Solo Pefomances Each pecussionist is equied to pefom a udimental snae solo & 4 mallet maimba solo duing the sping semeste. 4. Pecussion Ensemble Each pecussionist paticipates in 2 to 4 pecussion ensembles duing the sping semeste. Sping semeste concludes with a pecussion ensemble concet. he Ceda Pak High Pecussion Ensemble wishes you the best of luck this 2016 maching band season.
