While building and maintaining a respected identity in many musical domains he has yet to shy away from the music he most loves, nurtured within his roots as an improvising acoustic pianist. David grew up in Chicago and was drawn towards music from
early on through his mother who played piano and sang with big bands. Jazz piano grabbed his attention at 12 years old and has been a primary focus with other styles branching out from his main focus of jazz and classical. After graduating high school early David attended Northern Illinois University, Berklee College Of Music then San Francisco where David spent 4 years learning a lot about Afro Cuban music and funk styles. David moved to Los Angeles to attend Grove School Of Music for the Composing And Arranging program where he wrote and conducted a 20 piece orchestra each week for a year. This was a great expansion of capability. After Grove School, David embarked on a long stretch of career work as composer, session pianist/keyboardist, musical director and teacher. 7 years after the birth of their son, David and his wife decided to re-locate the family to Portland for the wonderful community setting and nature and independent, forward thinking growth going on there. Their son is 15 now and flourishing as a drummer and musician who is passionate about composing and producing for a career. David has focused a great deal of time on his family and being very present to their son who is now more independent which has freed up more time for David to embark on the strongest and most creative years to come as a composer for media and as a director of his own music bands.
David released his first CD, Facing North, on Sweet Basil records in March 1996. Facing North featured: Larry Carlton, Alex Acuña, David T. Walker, Paul Jackson Jr. William Kennedy, John Peña, Lee Ritenaur, Wah Wah Watson, Steve Tavaglione. David released a solo piano CD entitled Our Songs in 2006 which is available at itunes and CD Baby. David scored the Showtime series Defenders. He s won critical acclaim for his music and partnership with composer Mark Isham on the CBS series EZ Streets. His collaboration with Isham has featured David on many films. David has earned a broad based alliance and respect from all those he has worked with including: Dennis Miller on The Dennis Miller show, as Musical Director, the Chevy Chase show, and a world tour with Diana Ross, as Musical Director, Arranger, and Keyboardist, which included a live CD and a concert video for HBO.
