INTRODUCTION Metrologic's Cubit is compct, omnidirectionl br code scnner tht cn be used s presenttion scnner or s the scnning component in Originl Equipment Mnufcturer (OEM) pplictions. Incorporting the ltest in scnning technology Cubit cn scn nd decode ll stndrd br codes in ny orienttion. As n OEM product, the IS6520 is both esy to use nd instll. The IS6520 is equipped with three threded mounting holes, seril progrmming nd PowerLink quick-disconnect cbles. The modulr design of Cubit llows the unit to be tilored to meet the needs of specific ppliction. As retil scnner, the MS6520 s user-friendly mounting brcket bolts securely to the countertop or wll for fixed-mount scnning. Cubit s smll size nd ggressive scn pttern mke it idel for convenience, sporting goods, pprel nd toy/hobby stores. Furthermore, Cubit hs the option of direct connection to 5-Volt power source or plug-in the Metrologic power supply provided with the scnner. QUICK START 1. Connect the 10-pin RJ45 mle connector into the jck on the Cubit IS6520/MS6520. You will her click when the connection is mde. 2. Connect the L-shped plug of the power supply into the power jck on the PowerLink cble. 3. Connect the power supply into n AC outlet. Mke sure the AC input requirements of the power supply mtch the AC outlet. 4. When the IS6520 is redy to scn, the green LED will turn on, the red LED will flsh nd the scnner will beep once. 5. Plce br code in front of the scnning window. The scnner will beep once nd flsh the red LED if the br code ws successfully decoded. NOTE: Cubit is shipped from the fctory progrmmed with defult settings. Refer to the MetroSelect Progrmming Guide for instructions on how to configure the scnner. 3

INSTALLING THE IS6520-41/MS6520-41 TO THE HOST SYSTEM 1. Turn off the host system. 2. Connect the 10-pin RJ45 mle connector into the jck on the Cubit IS6520/MS6520. You will her click when the connection is mde. Note: If the Cubit IS6520 is receiving power from the host system, skip to step #5. (See cution sttement below) 3. Connect the L-shped plug of the power supply into the power jck on the PowerLink cble. 4. Connect the power supply into n AC outlet. Mke sure the AC input requirements of the power supply mtch the AC outlet. 5. Connect the PowerLink cble to the proper port on the host system. 6. Turn on the host system. Note: Plugging the scnner into port on the host system does not gurntee tht scnned informtion will be communicted properly to the host system. The scnner is shipped from the fctory progrmmed with defult settings. Plese refer to the MetroSelect Progrmming Mnul (MLPN 2407) for instructions on chnging the scnner s configurtion. In ddition, plese check tht the scnner nd host system re using the sme communiction protocol. Cution: To mintin complince with pplicble stndrds, ll circuits connected to the scnner must meet the requirements for SELV (Sfety Extr Low Voltge) ccording to EN 60950. To mintin complince with stndrd CSA C22.2 No. 950/UL 1950 nd norm EN 60950, the power source should meet pplicble performnce requirements for limited power source. 4

INSTALLING THE IS6520-47/MS6520-47 TO THE PC 1. Turn off the PC. 2. Connect the 10-pin RJ45 mle connector into the jck on the Cubit IS6520/MS6520. You will her click when the connection is mde. 3. Connect the L-shped plug of the power supply into the power jck on the PowerLink cble. Refer to Mnufcturer s Recommendtion below. 4. Connect the power supply into n AC outlet. Mke sure the AC input requirements of the power supply mtch the AC outlet. 5. Disconnect the keybord from the PC. 6. The PowerLink cble is terminted with 5-pin DIN femle connector on one end, nd 6-pin mini DIN mle on the other. Metrologic will supply n dpter cble with 5-pin DIN mle connector on one end nd 6-pin mini DIN femle connector on the other. According to the termintion required, connect the pproprite end of the dpter cble to the PowerLink cble, leving the necessry termintion exposed for connecting to the keybord nd the keybord port on the PC. Refer to Appendix C pge 31 for pin ssignments. 7. Connect to the PowerLink cble to the keybord nd the keybord port on the PC. 8. Power up the PC. & Mnufcturer s Recommendtion: Metrologic recommends the use of n externl power supply with IS6520-47/MS6520 Keybord Wedge pplictions. Powering the IS6520-47/MS6520 directly from the computer keybord connector could interfere with the opertion of the scnner or the computer. Not ll computers supply the sme current through the keybord port, explining why scnner would work on one computer nd not nother. Cution: To mintin complince with pplicble stndrds, ll circuits connected to the scnner must meet the requirements for SELV (Sfety Extr Low Voltge) ccording to EN 60950. DISCONNECTING THE POWERLINK CABLES FROM THE SCANNER Before removing the cble from the scnner, Metrologic recommends tht the power on the host system is off nd the power supply hs been disconnected from the PowerLink cble. & 1. Locte the smll pin-hole on the bck of the scnner. 2. Bend n ordinry pperclip into the shpe shown bove. 3. Insert the pperclip (or other smll metllic pin) into the smll pin-hole. 4. You will here fint click. Pull gently on the strin-relief of the PowerLink cble nd it will slide out of the scnner. 6

SCANNER PARTS A. Speker Serves s n udible indictor. C B. Green & Red LEDs During norml opertion, the green LED is on. This indictes tht the lser is on nd the unit is redy to scn. On successful red of br code, the red LED will turn on. After communiction to the host is complete, the red LED will turn off. The LEDs re lso used s dignostic indictors nd mode indictors. A D B C. Output Window Lser light emits form this perture. D. PowerLink Cble The IS6520/MS6520 scnner hs 10-pin modulr jck. The 10-pin modulr plug on the PowerLink cble connects into the IS6520/MS6520. MOUNTING HOLES Ech IS6520/MS6520 Cubit is equipped with three threded mounting holes locted on the bck of the scnner. The following digrm shows the exct loction of ech mounting hole. The mounting holes re 6 millimeters deep nd re threded for use with 3 millimeter screws. Cution: Using screw tht is longer thn 6 millimeters cn potentilly dmge the scnner. 7

Step 2: Attch the stnd to the countertop with the three #7 wood screws provided. Step 3: Attch the scnner to the stnd with the three M3 screws provided. Step 1: Drill three #39 pilot holes in the countertop. Step 2: Insert the scnner into the rubber boot (the MS6520 is shipped ssembled). Step 3: Tilt the scnner forwrd in the stnd. Step 4: Attch the stnd to the countertop using the three #8 wood screws provided. Step 5: Tilt the scnner bck into plce. 8

AUDIBLE INDICATORS When the IS6520/MS6520 scnner is in opertion, it provides udible feedbck. These sounds indicte the sttus of the scnner. Eight settings re vilble for the tone of the beep (norml, 6 lternte tones nd no tone). To chnge the tone, refer to the MetroSelect Progrmming Guide MLPN 2407. One Beep When the scnner first receives power, the green LED will turn on, then the red LED will flsh nd the scnner will beep once. (The red LED will remin on for the durtion of the beep.) The scnner is redy to scn. When the scnner successfully reds br code, the red LED will flsh nd the scnner beeps once (if progrmmed to do so). If the scnner does not beep once nd the green light does not flsh, then the br code hs not been successfully red. Rzzberry Tone This tone is filure indictor. Refer to Filure Modes" pge 10. Three Beeps - During Opertion During opertion of the scnner, the red LED will flsh while the scnner simultneously beeps three times (while going into progrmming mode). The red LED will continue to flsh until the unit exits progrm mode. Upon exiting progrm mode, the scnner will beep three times nd the red LED will stop flshing. When configured, 3 beeps cn lso indicte communictions timeout during norml scnning mode. When using one-code-progrmming, the scnner will beep three times (the current selected tone), followed by short puse then by high tone nd low tone. This tells the user tht the single configurtion br code hs successfully configured the scnner. Three Beeps - On Power Up This is filure indictor. Refer to Filure Modes on pge 10. 9

FAILURE MODES Flshing Green nd One Rzzberry Tone This indictes the scnner hs experienced lser subsystem filure. Return the unit for repir t n uthorized service center. Flshing Green nd Red nd Two Rzzberry Tones This indictes the scnner hs experienced motor filure. Return the unit for repir t n uthorized service center. Continuous Rzzberry Tone with Both LEDs Off If, upon power up, the scnner emits continuous rzzberry tone, then the scnner hs n electronic filure. Return the unit for repir t n uthorized service center. Three Beeps - On Power Up If the scnner beeps 3 times on power up then, the nonvoltile memory tht holds the scnner configurtion hs filed. Return the unit for repir t n uthorized service center. 10

VISUAL INDICATORS There is red LED nd green LED on IS6520/MS6520. When the scnner is on, the flshing or sttionry, ctivity of the LEDs indictes the sttus of the current scn nd the scnner. No Red or Green LED The LEDs will not be illuminted if the scnner is not receiving power from the host or trnsformer. Stedy Green When the lser is ctive, the green LED is illuminted. The green LED will remin illuminted until the lser is dectivted. During the power sve mode, the lser will turn on nd turn off. During this period, the green LED remins illuminted. Stedy Green nd Single Red Flsh When the scnner successfully reds br code, the red LED will flsh nd the scnner will beep once. If the red LED does not flsh or the scnner does not beep once, then the br code hs not been successfully red. Stedy Green nd Stedy Red After successful scn, the scnner trnsmits the dt to the host device. Some communiction modes require tht the host inform the scnner when dt is redy to be received. If the host is not redy to ccept the informtion, the scnner's red LED will remin on until the dt cn be trnsmitted. Stedy Green nd Flshing Red This indictes the scnner is in progrm mode. A rzzberry tone indictes tht n invlid br code hs been scnned in this mode. Stedy Red, Green Off This indictes the scnner my be witing for communiction from the host. 11

PROGRAMMING MODES The IS6520/MS6520 Cubit hs 3 modes of progrmming. Br Codes: Cubit cn be configured by scnning the br codes locted in the MetroSelect Configurtion Guide (MLPN 2407). Plese refer to this guide for instructions. This mnul cn be downloded for FREE from Metrologic s website (www.metrologic.com). MetroSet : This user-friendly Windows-bsed configurtion progrm llows you to simply point-nd-click t the desired scnner options. This progrm cn be downloded for FREE from Metrologic website (www.metrologic.com), or set-up disks cn be ordered by clling 1-800-ID-METRO. Seril Progrmming: This mode of progrmming is idel for OEM pplictions. This mode gives the end-user the bility to send series of commnds using the seril port of the host system. The commnds re equivlent to the numericl vlues of the br codes locted in the MetroSelect Configurtion Guide (MLPN 2407). How does Seril Progrmming work? 1. Ech commnd sent to the scnner is the ASCII representtion of ech numerl in the configurtion br code. The entire numeric string is frmed with n ASCII [stx] nd n ASCII [etx]. EXAMPLE #1: Commnd for Disbling Codbr Commnd = [stx]100104[etx] String Sent to Scnner = 02h 31h 30h 30h 31h 30h 34h 03h (All vlues re hexdeciml). 2. If the commnd sent to the scnner is vlid, the scnner will respond with n [ck]. 3. If the commnd sent to the scnner in invlid, the scnner will respond with [nk]. NOTE: If this occurs, the end-user must strt over t the very beginning of the configurtion sequence. Simply re-trnmsitting the invlid commnd will not work, you must strt over. 4. During progrmming, the motor nd lser remin ctive. YOU CANNOT SCAN ANY BAR CODES WHILE IN PROGRAM MODE. 5. There is 20 second window between commnds. If 20 second timeout occurs, the scnner will send [nk] nd you must strt over. 12

To exit seril progrm mode, send the following commnd [stx]999999[etx], the scnner will respond with n [ck] nd long beep. 8. This mode uses the current Bud Rte, Prity, Stop Bits nd Dt Bits settings tht re configured in the scnner. The defult settings of the scnner re 9600, Spce, 2, 7 respectively. If commnd is sent to the scnner to chnge ny of these settings, the chnge will NOT tke effect until fter seril progrm mode is exited. THE 3 SHOULD NOT BE SENT, IT IS A CODE TYPE DESIGNATION ONLY! As you will note for commnds requiring dditionl br codes to be scnned (such s prefixes, suffixes, timeouts, etc.), simply send the code bytes in the sme order tht you would normlly scn the br codes. 13
