Jim Carrey Jim worked on his routine and went back. He did very well. He quickly went from performing at open mic nights to being a paid comedian. At 19, Carrey moved from Canada to Hollywood. He used his wacky comedy in several TV and movie roles. His first big movie hit was Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. He applied his unique humor to The Mask. Time Magazine says, Carrey is his own best special effect, the first star who is a live-action toon. Then came the two lovable losers in Dumb and Dumber. In Liar, Liar, a wish makes a lying lawyer tell only the truth. The results are hilarious. J im Carrey s teacher got him to behave in class by letting him do 15 minutes of comedy. When his dad lost his job, the family of six lived in a camper. Jim boosted their spirits with humor. He said of his parents, They didn t tell me I was being stupid; they told me I was being funny. Carrey s quirky humor gave way to drama in The Truman Show. Truman discovers his whole life is on TV. In 1998, Jim received a Golden Globe Award for this film. He has received four Golden Globe nominations, winning two. Including one for his role in Man on the Moon. Carrey moves easily between dramatic roles and funny characters. His role as the Grinch had Jim wearing heavy green makeup in How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Jim s family continued to struggle to make ends meet. Jim never finished high school, because he worked full-time to support his family. One of his jobs was as a janitor. Jim s family was still very supportive of his comedy career. His father helped him put together his first act. He drove Jim to a comedy club to perform. The audience did not find Jim s impressions funny. Remedia Publications Sometimes it seems there is no real Jim Carrey. He is a man with a thousand faces. 3 Famous Actors
