This is a really interesting lesson. I promise you won t be bored and you will be satisifed with your progress by the end. 3

Preview and warm-up In this lesson, you will learn the difference between adjectives ending ed and -ing and how to use them properly. This is a really exciting party. 4

-ed adjectives Adjectives which end with ed describe how we are feeling. Look at the examples below. I am tired. Sheila was bored. Brad was frightened. They are relaxed. I was terrified. 5

-ed adjectives Adjectives which end with ing describe how things make us feel. Look at the examples below. The work was tiring. The lesson was boring. The film was frightening. The holiday was relaxing. The rollercoaster was terrifying. 6

-ed and ing adjectives Look at some examples of ed and -ing adjectives side by side. Notice again how ed adjectives describe how we feel, and how ing adjectives describe how something or someone makes us feel. -ed adjectives I felt shocked I was amazed I am confused I was annoyed She was excited -ing adjectives because his behaviour was shocking. by the amazing view. because grammar is confusing. because my little brother is really annoying. because the news was very exciting. 7

Dialogue Choose the correct option from the words in brackets then practise the dialogue with your classmates. Go to bed Matt, you look (tired/tiring). Adjectives and prepositions Some adjectives are followed by certain prepositions. There are no rules so you simply have to learn them. Some adjectives can be followed by different prepositions: look at pleased below. + with + for I was satisfied with the work they did. She was very unhappy with her grades. I was really angry with my son when he came home late. I was really pleased with how the cake turned out. Eating vegetables is good for you. Smoking is bad for you. Charles Darwin is famous for his theory of evolution. I was pleased for my mum when she won the cake competition. 14

Adjectives and prepositions Here are some more adjectives followed by prepositions. + of + about I was scared of that big dog. Susie was tired of having to do grammar every day. James is sick of people telling him he s too skinny. I am so proud of my daughter when I see her doing something new. I am very worried about my exams. What are you so angry about? She was happy about winning the race. He was annoyed about having to wait so long. 15

Adjectives and prepositions Below are some more adjectives with their prepositions. Pete is married to a doctor. Anne is really interested in horses. I was keen on baking when I was younger. She was surprised by her sister s reaction The children were very rude to their teacher. 16
