PHIL THE FLTER S BALL A song by Percy French (1854 1920) Arranged by Donald Williams for Singer (Ten/Bar) with Piano and Descant Recorder (or Flute) PIANO SCORE Arranged and Set by DFW, November 20
Phil Fluter s Ball Notes: 1 As far as I know, this is not a traditional Irish song, but an original composition by Percy French 2 I have been looking for a copy of original for a long time, but have been unable to locate one I have refore made my own version setting down tune from memory of a Peter Dawson recording (now that gives my age away) and adding a simple piano part 3 Given title, it seemed fitting to add a 'flute' obbligato I actually use a recorder, because that is what I have access to, but a 'real' flute could also be used I suggest that 'fluter' ignores octava clef of recorder part, and plays as if in a plain treble clef (and hence an octave lower than a descant/soprano recorder) However re are probably places (such as measure 26) where an accomplished flautist might choose to play up an octave for better balance 4 The song could also be performed without recorder/flute: Omit page 3 of piano score; The piano plays all three staves of measures 2930 (or uses measures 3132, which is same thing) Again, an accomplished pianist might add some of 'twiddly' bits in choruses 5 It is also possible I have done this myself for singer to sing song without a 'fluter' in choruses, but to play solo (page 3 of piano score) as an interlude before last verse I hope you enoy this setting, DFW
