Transcription:

LUDVIG van BEETHOVEN Beethoven was known for his emotions, both in life and in his music. This is one of the qualities that sets his music apart from his predecessors. Listen for Emotions Worksheet: With the following worksheet, play excerpts of several different pieces of Beethoven s music and ask the students to circle one (or more) faces that describe their feelings when they hear that tune. I don t grade this activity, but it serves as a great way to encourage listening. After the page is done, I encourage the students to share their feelings. Some examples of pieces to play: Symphony No. 5 in C minor, First Movement, Allegro con brio Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Second Movement, Allegretto Opus 27, No. 2: Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor ("Moonlight") Poco moto (Bagatelle) in A minor ("Für Elise") Symphony No. 4 in Bb Major, Fourth Movement, Allegro ma non troppo Symphony No. 9, Fourth Movement, Ode to Joy (about halfway through) For more ideas, see my website: bethsnotes.com. Beethoven Quiz: Some of the questions require you to play some of Beethoven s music during the quiz. Nos. 1 & 2 - Poco moto (Bagatelle) in A minor ("Für Elise") No. 4 - Symphony No. 5 in C minor, First Movement, Allegro con brio No. 5 - Symphony No. 9, Fourth Movement, Ode to Joy (about halfway through) No. 17 I discuss the optional answers to this question in advance.
