WASO Philanthropy WASO & WAGNER
Be part of our most exciting project to date by joining the WASO & Wagner campaign today. WASO & Wagner presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for West Australians to join a thrilling journey of discovery through Wagner s music, as well as the composers Wagner influenced and those who were influenced by him. World-renowned Wagner interpreter Asher Fisch will lead WASO through Wagner s oeuvre, delivering Perth audiences a rare chance to hear some of the most glorious music ever written in the finest acoustics in Australia, our own Perth Concert Hall. Asher Fisch is in regular demand to conduct Wagner s work by the major European and American symphony orchestras and opera houses. WASO & Wagner will see him joined by some of the finest artists in the world to deliver an innovative program of music, lectures and events inspired by the seminal composer. This is an out of the ordinary project for WASO that, across the 2017 and 2018 seasons, will investigate how Wagner transformed the art form of classical music forever. The first instalment of the two-year project and the centrepiece of WASO s 2017 season will be Wagner and Beyond, a two-concert mini festival exploring the colossal impact Wagner s writing had on the history of music.
These concerts will be introduced from the stage by Asher Fisch, and recorded and broadcast by Foxtel Arts. There will also be pre- and post-concert talks to help audiences gain a deeper understanding of Wagner s work. The 2017 concerts form the prelude to the second part of WASO & Wagner two concert performances of Wagner s ground-breaking opera Tristan und Isolde, which will form the centrepiece of WASO s 90th anniversary celebrations in 2018. Benjamin Britten said after the premiere of Tristan und Isolde that it dwarfs every other creation save perhaps [Beethoven s] Ninth. Leonard Bernstein called it the central work of all music history, the hub of the wheel. WASO s 2018 production of Tristan und Isolde will bring together a stunning cast of the world s finest Wagnerian singers; including internationally acclaimed Australian tenor Stuart Skelton, who has established himself as the leading exponent for the role of Tristan, and acclaimed Dutch soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek in the role of Isolde. WASO & Wagner presents a rare opportunity for Perth audiences to enjoy the world s best artists performing in their very own concert hall and we would love you to be involved.
