coverartist Dance by Diane Whitehead A vibrant palette and strong, textural brushstrokes mark Diane Whitehead s bold style, an innovative blend of fauvism and post-impressionism. Each canvas captures her perpetual pursuit of color and light, with palpable intensity. Self-taught, Whitehead began painting at age 12, when an uncle who had lost his eyesight gifted her with his box of oil paints. She spent her spare time pushing oil paint around on canvas in the house she shared with seven siblings. The solitude of painting became my most treasured quiet time, she recalls. Dance embodies Whitehead s sense of joy and mission in her art: Bringing emotion to life. That, along with intuitive, raw honesty and new beginnings, are the tools in my bag as I begin each day. Blank canvas and fresh oil I know of no better way to be alive. Diane Whitehead s art is held in private collections worldwide. coverartist Disguised by Her Own Bare Hands by Ali Cavanaugh Ali Cavanaugh s dependence upon the visual world began when she lost much of her hearing as a result of contracting spinal meningitis at age 2. From her youngest days, she became sensitive to the people around her and the unspoken language revealed through compositions of the human body. I m in a state of constant awareness about the world, taking in its imagery, colors and patterns, comments Cavanaugh. Fascinated by the dichotomy of the seen and unseen, she is moved to portray the human figure in two aspects, body and soul; her figures are often accentuated by stark white negative spaces. Cavanaugh s powerful, intuitive works bring to light the complexity within contemplation, and her signature poetic titles are part of this engaging discourse. I believe that every moment in life has potential as a great work of art, she says, as a chapter in a book, a scene in a movie or a painting. Ali Cavanaugh s art is held in private collections worldwide and was featured on the December 2009 cover of American Art Collector magazine. To view her portfolio, visit AliCavanaugh. com.
