TWCP Incoming Freshman/Parents Information Meeting March 7, 2018 Introduction of Directors: Jeff Gorring Director of Bands jgorring@conroeisd.net Theresa Martin Assistant Director of Bands temartin@conroeisd.net Rob Savala Percussion Director rsavala@conroeisd.net Ali Martinez Color Guard Director almartinez@conroeisd.net Band Classes Offered Wind Ensemble Symphonic Band I and II Concert Band I and II Instrumental Techniques non-performing class Music Theory Class Color Guard Twirling What credits are earned for taking band? 1 credit for Fine Arts, 1 credit PE Waiver Homework and class loads are always a question for parents. The students seem to be more organized in the fall and therefore their grades are typically better in the fall. We have many AP, pre-ap and Science Academy students to help their bandmates with upper level classes. No Pass/No Play as decided by UIL is determined after the first 6-weeks and otherwise every 9-weeks. All classes must have a 70 or above. If there is a failing grade in the first 6-weeks, eligibility can be regained by passing ALL subjects at the 9-weeks. No refund on trips is a district policy. School-owned marching instruments will be available at the May camp. The instrument maintenance fee of $75.00 is not due until school starts in August. School owned instruments include oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, tenor and baritone sax, French horn and mellophone, euphonium, bass trombone, marching baritone, tuba and percussion. P a g e 1

Physicals need to be turned in before summer band starts on July 23rd. Forms are available at http://athletics.conroeisd.net/ and must be dated after April 14 th. Marching Band Marching Season is Competitive! It s not just about football games. This cannot be stressed enough. This is a competitive team, just like football, basketball, and soccer. Students learn more responsibility and develop leadership qualities. No marching means no PE credit Summer practice is required to be eligible for a contest marching spot IMPORTANT: Every student is required to have a water jug (at least 64 ounce capacity) labeled with the student s name.
