Coach and Accompanist Keith Orrell Coach We are pleased to welcome back Keith Orrell as out coach for this singing day. Keith is director of the William Byrd Singers of Manchester and Vocal Projects Leader for Wigan Borough, a post which involves the development of singing in all schools in the region. He is also director of The Liverpool Welsh Choral Society. Keith was Chorus Master of the Halle Choir for many years and has acted as Chorus Master for other symphony choruses in the UK, including the BBC Symphony Chorus, most notably training this choir for one of their 2004 Summer Prom concerts in the Royal Albert Hall. Tim Walker Accompanist Originally from Heswall, Tim has over 25 years experience as a pianist, keyboard player, accompanist and organist. Classically trained under Eva Warren (piano) and Roger Fisher (organ), Tim obtained a Wirral Studentship Award aged 13, and after university, spent several years accompanying ladies choirs. Since working in IT in Manchester, and moving to Wilmslow 12 years ago, he became involved with musical theatre companies, as principal accompanist and subsequently Musical Director. These include New Mills, East Cheshire, Knutsford, Zodiacs and Vale Royal Juniors. He works with vocalists, singing teachers, instrumentalists and smaller classical choirs, and in addition to piano, he regularly plays the organ at local churches around Wilmslow, and is principal wedding organist at St George s Church in Thornton Hough, Wirral.
Programme A Little Jazz Mass by Bob Chilcott This year the Barnby Choir is delighted to have the opportunity to offer a modern take on the Latin Missa Brevis by Bob Chilcott, who has been described by The Observer newspaper as a contemporary hero of British choral music. The various movements embrace a variety of jazz styles including Swing in the Gloria and inspirational Blues in the Agnus Dei. There are plenty of stylish jazz-crunch chords for singers to explore. The piano accompanist will be joined by a bassist and percussionist in the afternoon which will greatly enhance the whole jazz experience. There will be an informal performance of the work at 4.00pm to which family and friends are invited, followed by tea and cake. Become a member of The Barnby Choir If you enjoy singing, why not come and join us? We extend a warm welcome to enthusiastic singers who want to sing to a high standard and have lots of friendly company with the opportunity to contribute to quality music-making. (There is an annual membership fee.) If you are interested in joining us, please contact the Choir Secretary on 0161 485 1659. You can also make enquiries via our website at www.thebarnbychoir.co.uk.
