General Guidelines & Precautions WARNING To reduce the risk of fire or shock hazard, do not expose the product to rain or moisture. To guard against injury, the following basic safety precautions should be observed in the installation, use, and servicing of the product. Power Sources This product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of electrical power supplied to your home, consult your dealer or local power company. Overloading Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords or convenience receptacles beyond their capacity, since this can result in fire or electrical shock. Object and Liquid Entry Never push objects of any kind into the product through the slots as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short out parts that could result a fire or electrical shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product. Attachments Do not use attachments not recommended by the manufacturer, as they may cause hazards. Cleaning Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a cloth dampened with water for cleaning. General Guidelines & Precautions Water and Moisture Do not use this product near water for example, near a bathtub, washbowl, kitchen sink, or laundry tub, in a wet basement, or near a swimming pool, etc. Accessories Do not place this product on a unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table. The product may fall, causing serious injury to a child or adult and serious damage to the product. An appliance and cart combination should be moved with care. Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the appliance and cart combination to overturn. Ventilation Slots and opening in the cabinet are provided for ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the product to protect it from overheating. These openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings should never be blocked by placing the product on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This product should not be placed in a built-in installation such as a bookcase or rack unless proper ventilation is provided or the manufacturer s instructions have been adhered to. Power-Cord Protection Do not allow anything to rest on or roll over the power cord, and do not place the product where the power cord is subject to wear or abuse. Servicing Do not attempt to service this product yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. General Guidelines & Precautions Damage Requiring Service Unplug the product from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: When the power cord or plug is damaged or frayed. Liquid spilt into the product. Exposure to rain or water. Subjection to excessive shock by being dropped, or the cabinet has been damaged. If the product does not operate normally when following the operating instructions, then adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions. An improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the product to its normal operation. When the product exhibits a distinct change in performance -- this indicates a need for service. Replacement Parts When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician certifies in writing that he has used replacement parts specified by the manufacturer that have the same characteristics as the original parts. Unauthorized substitutions may result in fire, electric shock, or other hazards. Heat The product should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other products (including amplifiers) that produce heat as well as direct sunlight. If the product experiences sudden changes in temperature, moisture may form inside the product. Setup Overview PeerStation connects to a TV Set and an audio sub-system, to deliver the best living room experience for content stored on its internal harddisk, home network devices (PCs, Network Attached Storage) and Internet media sites Internet Broadband Modem / Router (ADSL, Cable) WiFi or LAN PeerStation Regular /HDTV Set + Audio Sys. Installation Procedure 1 Connect to a TV 2 Connect to an Audio system 3 Connect a LAN cable (if wired LAN is available) 4 Connect the power and see active on screen display 5 Enter setup and change networking and video settings to desired values 6 Restart and done! if network detected the unit is ready to play! 1a Connecting to an HDTV Set DVI Connector Component Out connectors Use either the component (safer) or DVI-to-HDMI cable to connect to an HDTV DVI to HDMI Cable Component (three-color cable) Note: Some older HD TVs fail to decode HDMI correctly and are safer to use with component out, which provides almost identical performance PeerStation SIG-220 Installation Guide (Preliminary) 10

2 Connecting to an audio playback device Coax SPDIF Out RCA Stereo Use stereo RCA type connection or the provided Coax SPDIF output to connect to an audio amp. 3 Connecting a wired LAN (*) Wired LAN Port 10baseT cable If wired LAN is available near the installation point of PeerStation, connect to the LAN port (10baseT type) located on the back panel. Assuming that the home router provides IP address through DHCP mechanism, this should provide the needed link to the home network / Internet. 4a Network not found case If home network cannot be detected, PeerStation indicates that no IP address server (DHCP Server) can be set. 5b Network Type Setup Use the RIGHT arrow key to select connectivity and then press OK to bring up network type selection dialog. Use UP/Down arrows to select LAN / Wireless, and then press OK to confirm or Previous ( ) to cancel PeerStation SIG-220 Installation Guide (Preliminary) 16

5c Network Parameters Setup Use the RIGHT arrow key to select Network Name and then use the UP/Down arrows to select the required parameter. For a wired LAN case, Use DHCP is the most common settings (home router supplies address. Fixed IP is rarely used usually by professional installer). Screen view of setup for the wireless case For a Wireless LAN, By pressing the red button you can search for available networks and choose your network from a list. If your network name does not appear in the list you will have to enter it manually. Whether WEP (security key) is used or not (secured / nonsecured network). 5d WiFi Network Setup If home network cannot be detected, PeerStation indicates that no IP address server (DHCP Server) can be Found. 5e Setting the Video Mode Use the RIGHT arrow key to select TV Standard and then use the UP/Down arrows to select the required parameter. The following settings are available: TV Standard: NTSC (US) or PAL (Mostly Europe). Most current TVs can play both types Aspect Ratio: 16:9 (wide-screen) or 4:3 letterbox (older, standard TVs). Choose Auto if not sure Note: You must use both connections (analog & digital) to switch between them. After choosing the new display mode the screen will go blank, switch your TV set to the new chosen input and verify the new display type. Video Port: Choose Composite / S-Video for Standard Definition TVs. For true HD performance, you need to connect either Component or DVI-to-HDMI cable, and select Component / DVI Video Mode: Choose 480i/576i for standard TVs, 1080i for HDTVs PeerStation SIG-220 Installation Guide (Preliminary) 19

5f System Information Select System and then use the RIGHT arrow key and the UP/Down arrows to select System Information The following parameters are displayed: IP Address: As received from the home router. If the address: 192.168.1.10 is displayed, network detection has probably failed (internal default) Note: Write down this address as it used to access the box as a network disk server from a home-networked PC (also known as Samba Server ) MAC Address: Physical address of LAN interface (technician info) Software Version: Version info of the built in software (technician use) PeerStation SIG-220 Installation Guide (Preliminary) 20

5g Hard Disk Drive Information Select System and then use the RIGHT arrow key and the UP/Down arrows to select HDD Information The following parameters are displayed: HDD Total Size: Total size of the internal installed hard drive. 5h Hard Disk Drive Tools Select System and then use the RIGHT arrow key and the UP/Down arrows to select HDD Tools The following operations can be used: Perform Disk Check: Checks the HDD and displays the HDD status. Perform Disk Check (Auto-Fix Mode) : Checks the HDD, fixes existing problems displays the HDD status. Clear Personal Data : Deletes all personal data (cookies, favorites & temporary files) Format Disk : Formats HDD deleting all existing files and data. 6 Exiting Setup Once setup is done, the box needs to reboot with the new settings. Using the UP / DOWN arrows, select Exit Mode and then the option marked (Save & Exit). After a short black screen, a normal boot should proceed and if network setup complies with the connected home network, it should proceed to application loading without any error message. MediaXplorer Main Menu The Main Menu is the Media Type Selection screen, used to select media type to be explored. Use arrows (left/right) to select, OK to start browsing Available types- Video: watch streaming video web sites, video files from the internal HDD or videos from your local network. Music: listen to your music collection or connect to various web music sources. Photo: view photos from photos web sites or browse your photo albums. Radio: Listen to streaming Internet stations from various web sources. TV: watch streaming live TV and streaming live Webcams. PeerStation SIG-220 Installation Guide (Preliminary) 25

Media Selection Screen The Media Selection is used to select the media item to be displayed. Use arrows to navigate, OK to start playback Up/ Right arrows selects an item Left / Right move one level up/down (into folder / back to previous level) OK select or play the selected item. Back goes to last displayed screen? Media Playback Mode The Media Selection is used to select the media item to be displayed. Using PeerStation as a Media Server PeerStation s internal HDD can serve as a central repository of your digital media in a Windows-based home network. To start loading media to PeerStation s hard-disk, run your Windows file browser and enter the PeerStation Server name as indicated in the following screen capture: (\\istb-22 ) PeerStation SIG-220 Installation Guide (Preliminary) 30

Using PeerStation as a Media Server You can now manage your PeerStation hard disk using standard Windows tools (including drag-and-drop into target directories, delete files, etc.) Note however the following: 1. Do not change the top level directory structure as it is expected by the MediaXplorer navigation logic.
